Hi,

I would like to know from you guys, what would be a reasonable 5.1 sound system for my PC, under R1k

At the moment Im using cheap headphones and its starting to frustrate me!

I mostly listen to music and play HD movies, and a bit of games.

Any input is much appreciated!

5.1 under 1k is rubbish quality, but compare to your cheap headphone I guess it will still be an improvement.

I am using Altec Lansing FX4021, 2.1 system but good bass for Movies and games, and ok for music. I got it under R1K.

I have the Logitech X530's and they are realy aswesome!

PC INT - Logitech 5.1 X530 Speakers (140Watts Peak Power) R 749 excl. R 853 incl.

The logitech X-530 is a great 5.1 system for the price. You can get it for R 899.00 excl shipping at BuyComputers

Im not much worried about quality, just want speakers.

that 2.1 can do!

How about better quality 2.1 speakers?

Logitech Z-4s (Z is the 'higher-end' Logitech speaker range) produce great sound. Check out a review - http://techgage.com/article/logitech_z-4_21_speakers/1

5.1 = clutter galore. :sick:

I bought a 5.1 surround sound and used it for a total of 2 hours. Too much clutter, and the sounds after 2 hours become a little overbearing (game me a headache). I would rather go for a decent 2.1....

5.1 speakers are very good for certain movies, and certain computer games.

But yeah... There is the issue of where to stick the two rear speakers. If you were mainly going to listen to music, I'd rather get a higher quality 2.1 set than a surround set.

either buy expensive 2.1's for under 1k, or expensive 5.1's for under 4k

if you really have a movie lounge, get 5.1's, but if you have a sleeping dorm, get 2.1's

logitech ftw

Wow, just turn down the volume. The reason for going to multi channel sounds systems is to get a better surround sound definition and colour of the playing music and betetr definition of the bass, etc. In games it is to get a better sound stage to inlude directional sounds. Therefore up to 7.1 channels is now avaialble. IT IS NOT THERE TO MAKE MORE NOISE.

LOL.

Even turned down low, it gives me a headache! Its more to do with the way the sound coming from all directions pulls my brain apart than the volume. I cant watch movies in 5.1 either for that same reason....

The x530 is definitely the way to go. For the price nothing can beat them. Maybe have a look at the x540 too. I used to have the x530, which my brother is now using. They will make you happy. Just get them.
