One of the speakers on my Logitech X230 have blown and I'm looking for a replacement. Must be 2.1 (Want bass but don't need 5.1) but I also want good sound quality for speech, I always found the logitech weren't great when it came to talking in movies and games, the bass was great though. I want to avoid logitech though as they always seem to break, any suggestions?

Been using these for many years now, love them.

in fact, I incorporated the subwoofer into the structural design when I built my desk.

I have the same type of speakers as Jabberwocky, but the 5.1 set. I bought them in 2005 and they are still going strong :)

They look very similar so I suspect they have more or less the same sound - in which case I would go for them if I could find them! I think they are the Creative SBS560's.

Pardon the slight thread derailment, but what would the downside of using say a mini Hifi system as your speaker system on a computer system?

@Jabberwocky, would you maybe have a pic of two of the setup that you could share?

Wanted to start a thread about building this desk. it uses exactly 1 sheet of pressboard, 1 door, 2m of fake leather (which works perfectly for the desk`s surface). Huge desk with a special place for everything for a R1000.
Will post a pic of the full desk when its tidy.

Sorry for the hijack

The Creative SBS A320's are the ones to go for now. The one's above were discontinued years ago.
Just make sure you get the A320's and not the A220's. They look very similar, but there's a huge
difference in power output and bass response.

Thanks, do they have an aux port for headphones on one of the speakers?

No, that's the only downside. That and they only have a 1 year warranty and Logitech offers 2 years.

You'll make alternative arrangements for your headphones like hooking up the front audio on your PC case or buying a cheap USB sound adapter.

You'll often find that headphone jacks on cheaper speaker models are substandard (especially in the case
of logitech), so it's no big loss in my opinion.

Best 2.1 on the market:

Corsair SP2500 - 2.1 Gaming Speaker, 232W RMS, Wired Remote Control

I started a similar thread recently. I've done a lot of research and it seems that there is one clearcut winner - Klipsch Promedia 2.1. Just a pity they don't sell them here. I checked homemation.co.za but they said they are not allowed to import it, due to the voltage differences we have here.

Just to add, I've got a Creative 2.1 and a Microlab 2.1. Both are quite good, especially for the price but I do want something better. Some suggest getting an amplifier with a good set of speakers.

I have these A320's and are by far the best sound quality for your money and cheaper than logitech.. Don't be fooled these small creatives pack a punch!

Are yours still working?
I'm expecting mine to fail again at some time, but for now I'll stick with them

Yip, still working. There are so many different brands that the various stores are selling. Cafe Viva sells the Microlab brand. Computer Mania sells Creative, Logitech and some unknown brand called Thonet and Vander or something to that effect.

I use a set of P380's... 8 years old, awesome sound quality & still going strong. I'd recommend Creative over any brand :D
