Reliable ISP - uncapped ADSL

You said you have been with them for 2 days. In a while you will get the same crap as with all the other ISPs, that I can promise you.

I'm on Web Africa Business and it's great.

Good Morning,

As promised here is the feedback from using web africa. The following picture should tell you everything...

speedtest.png

I effectively downloaded 143 Gb before the line became totally useless (currently using 3G). Can not even open google.co.za.
During the day my downloads was limited to 23 Kbps and my big downloads was scheduled from 12 AM to 6 AM. Simple windows updates and youtube usage contributed to their "star" rating and the line was not hammered. Steam downloads were done after 8 PM (3 to 7 Gb game downloads)

This was the last ISP i could try. ALL OF THE ISP's "home" bundles suck. There is zero guarantee that getting the business version of these packages (3x the price on average per ISP) would be better. I am willing to give the business versions a go. But knowing what I have experienced the last few months with the various ISP's i can honestly tell you. there is not a SINGLE ISP IN SOUTH AFRICA that has a good AUP. They all take your money with a smile and limit you as much as possible.

personal note: web africa had the BEST SPEEDS! I could use the full capacity of the line 4 Mbps (410 to 430 Kpbs)

And it is a pleasure. Hope my information can help others

Hi, I'm new here but desperate to find an ISP better than Mweb. I've been with them for over 20 years and hate to change my email address (as does my husband) but there is some nonsense going on. I keep losing my connection but it returns when I call their tech line - sometimes before anyone even answers! I used to be pretty good with this stuff but it's passed me by so your review was extremely helpful. Thank you. I shall look up Web Africa. Let's hope they hang in as opposed to what everyone else seems to have done. Eish with all the options and tricks they pull it is very confusing. I just want the damned connection to stay connected and not take forever!

Oh and I wanted to ask advice - we have a wifi router in the house, but it's an old house with thick walls. My 'office' is outside in the garden and I wasn't getting a connection so a family member who knows more about this than I do, put another router out there. It worked for a while but now that router isn't working. Is there a reliable way to get one connection in both spaces? Would a strong booster do the trick? Thanks.

You can move to another isp and keep your email addresses. You will then have to pay mweb for your addresses only, I think it's around R30 a pop.

Signed up with Axxess 1MB business uncapped. Starts 1 August 2014. Paying via EFT so no double debits or any funny business like that when I leave. Hope I can at least see 90% of those 1MB speeds. If not, then I simply move on.

Afrihost: used to be a great company, their service is still good support wise. But their network speeds are so random and slow it is faster to get into a plane and download in Japan then it is to use their network. They DON't have stable network as they claim to have. They love to over sell their capacity e.g. they have 10 slices of cakes for 10 people, but like to sell the 10 slices of cakes to 20 people thus giving you half a slice. My speeds have only deteriorated in the last 4 months to the point where i have 17 to 34 Kpbs downloads speeds on a 4 Mbps line. So no idea how they got voted best ISP in SA. must have been a marketing company doing the propaganda since they outright suck. Recommendation AVOID at all cost! Unless you like slower then 56k Dial-up speeds :P I have no idea how people get to their 500 gb + data usage since i can never get passed the 250 GB. If I am lucky i hit 380 GB (also not most of my IT friends use them and they observed the same findings)

I have nothing bad to say about my 1Meg Business account from AH, full speed no matter what time of day.

My next plan is to go to the business account with WA (web africa). That is all that is left in terms of getting a "good ISP" there is none. paying more should solve the problem I guess. @Rickster thank you. Will check out the business option

I'm on Web Africa Business 10Meg if you have any questions.

Hi Chevron,

is it worth it to go business? Does large downloads count towards your 10 day rolling etc tec?

Yeah. With Business the thresholds higher. So you can do a lot more day time downloads without dropping stars. If you download after midnight though your stars never drop.

Please explain your shaping/throttling of speed..
Currently, I'm on mweb prem, the shaping happens with 100kb/s being lost every 1-2 hours with 5-7 pm being the lowest point at around 100kb/s and highest being from 2-10 am at 1.1mb/s with 100kb/s being added every 1-2 hours. All streaming remains constant no matter what. I'm on 20mb. Ping remains constant at 5-35 for all local.

Looking to move though.

What's your monthly usage like?

What's your monthly usage like?

400-600 GB - this was avg. with 10mb premium. Well with my 20mb line, I've done around 150 Gb in 3 days. So honestly I can't really tell. For the safe part basically 800 gb on month where my family wants series.
