Location
Cape Town before December holidays.
I am planning on moving to CT probably the northern suburbs. I don't have much furniture or things to move over, will be buying stuff once I move there. Does anyone have any tips for moving my car and small things across to CT? Should I be driving myself there or use a car transport service?

Any recommendations for moving companies?
Also if anyone has done the move before, thoughts on where to stay why looking for a decent place to rent?

Where you working? Hopefully not in town. Northern suburbs, then durbanville is the place to stay.

My office is in Century City, so not in town but I'll be working remote mostly. Hoping I won't have to travel to town often. I've been looking around Durbanville in Tyger waterfront and Vredekloof.

Put your belongings in the car and drive it down, maybe stop halfway and spend the night somewhere to break up the trip. If you don’t drive it down you’ll need to pay for vehicle transportation, flights, someone to move your small stuff and on top of that it’ll be a pita to organise all that and guaranteed someone will fk something up in the process.

Well I also have a bed and some desks that I want to take with me. Is the drive still safe and are the roads ok driving down to CT?

Send the furniture with a company and drive down. National roads are in better condition in general. Independent Republic ofWestern Cape is not that far. If your not used to the long road then just hit a sho't left and explore along the way.

When I semigrated from JHB to CT around 6 or 7 years ago. We paid R25k odd to bring entire household contents for a family of 4 down. Sent the wife’s car down by rail think it was R5k odd. I drove down to meet the truck and set up the house for the family. Had her and the kids fly down just because chivalry and all.

Good luck with the move! It’s the small things like getting your drivers license a week after you apply for a renewal or just back up power for robots at intersections. You won’t look back.

Edit: for small things you can get space in a truck and not the entire truck which works out a lot cheaper. You just need to align with the timelines of whoever has the most space bought for the trip.

Wait. What?

I thought everyone has to wait the 6-8 weeks?

I just did mine and only anticipating getting it in Feb.

Then again it’s the last time I am doing this; as I’m swapping it out for a UK one early next year anyway.

Insider knowledge. Go to Fishhoek, this was obviously before the printing machine saw its arse.

Too late for me now. But once in the UK I think i just send it in the mail and get it back a week or so later in UK format.

Do you mind giving more info about sending the car via rail? You can send me a DM also.
