Renault Duster - anyone have one?

1. The duster comes from a brand here in SA backed by good warranties and support.
2. The engine is rock solid. not subjective this; as its used in mercs, nissans, bigger renaults etc.
3. The price is right- very attractive actually for what you are getting.

so who the heck gives a flying cuckoo over your comment about it being a rebranded.....

So the fact that it is designed and manufactured by a company known to be of worse quality than the badge being displayed is of no importance?

No amount of paint can remedy the visual pain a Duster (of any brand) causes. I think if you maybe paint it with red stripes and then add brown (favourite colour for Dacia) dots over the red lines it might distract from the turdlike looks. I doubt it will look better with age, maybe when the viewer ages and eye sight gets worse the Duster can appear to look better.

To be fair, you cannot say that.

Renault India is as much a Renault company, as Renault France.

The original Dacias were total dogs, but that was 25 years ago!

Things have improved quite a bit since the late 80's!

guess all those years driving a dacia has given you the first hand experience to have a negative opinion about dacia's right?

I wish i drove a duster!
i think they good value for money yip! i am not keen on the brand renault, but the duster represents the kind of value that might just tempt me!

Dacia has been a wholly owned subsidiary of Renault for 15yrs and the Duster was designed by Renault Design Central Europe. The Dacia that made that abhorrent pickup truck (which they designed in 1975) is a distant memory.
 
lets not buy a ferarri, they literally rebranded fiats...

I am aware that Renault have a lot of input into this specific model but I was replying to pboy's general statement which was not specific to the duster.
But you still cant compare the duster to a full blown Renault you have to always add for the price for it to make sense.

You have a point (well rather garp does, you just went full retard).
Even with garps excellent point, I still feel its worth knowing that a car is associated at least in a small way with the worlds (previously) worst automaker. Even if its just the name. The name is enough to kill its resale value. And TBH, the Sandero is also a rebranded Dacia and it is also the worst car I have ever driven. Nothing like the other cheap Renaults.
 
Looks wise it is on par with the Renault Vel Satis.

It really isn't, though. The Dacia brand carries with it the very real association that it was designed and is built for a lower tier market. When I buy expensive goods, such as a car, I'd rather have a first-class used one than a shiny, new second-rate one.
