I currently have a Telkom DuoPlus 300WR (I got it with the Telkom 1mb trial in January). I've had disconnection and slow connection issues over the last few days and two weeks ago. The Telkom tech guy just visited me and said the problem was with the modem. Apparently it overheats, I do use it a lot, in fact I've been letting torrents download nearly 24/7 on my PC the last few weeks. He suggested I buy an expensive Netgear (in the region of R2000).

Anyone know of any other decent options? I'd prefer to have Wireless N functionality with the modem/router. I do have a TP-link (TL-MR3420) 3G/ADSL router though (I've set it up for now with the Telkom router hoping that maybe it will alleviate the overheating somewhat by taking over the wireless function - I have no idea if this is a workable solution or not).

Any advice would be appreciated.

Why not look at the Netgear DGN2200? I have the 2000 and it works like a charm. It has 802.11n support and the speeds on it are pretty good. Mine's on permanently with bandwidth being a major participant and while it warms up it's never given me issues of note. I think the 2200 retails for around R900-ish.

Just a slight correction - the MR3420 isn't an ADSL modem. I'd suggest, since you already have it, get yourself a cheapy ADSL modem (TP-Link or D-Link should do fine) and connect that to the TP-Link, which can then handle the wireless.
