Report blames apartheid for violence

It always amazes me how in one thread forumites advocate the retention of reminders of times gone past, however, in the next thread they refuse to acknowledge even the possibility of what the past has on us today...

it's that ironic "i'm proud of our achievements as a race" but then "you can't hold us accountable for what they did" :p
the past does have an effect on us, but it's logical that people who have not committed those acts can't be held responsible

education
law and order
service delivery
quality of the people
art and cultural development
moral standard
etc...

want me to continue?

Ah I thought so, semantics. The origin of this discussion was in infrastructure not social needs.

If you're not providing employment for the people, especially young people, they're going to get bored. When people get bored, the get up to mischief - drugs, sex, rock 'n roll - when they should be working. So, what are they going to do to fund their boredom? Rape, murder & pillage! It's common sense to me, get the people working and this "culture of violence" left behind as a legacy of apartheid, my ass, will improve!

That means educating them, and having programs in place to ensure that they enter meaningful further education programs when they leave school designed to make them employable.

Yes, but that is not enough.

SA labour is expensive, unproductive, and inflexible. So in order for businesses to employ more people, and not just automate, these issues need to be addressed.

so boredom leads to rape, murder and violence?

Yes. There's a direct link. It has been scientifically proven. If you have been feeling bored for more than three minutes and fourteen seconds, you're about to rape, murder and be violent.

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

Very funny, Grayston. :D

Not put that simply, no. Put yourself in the shoes of the people that do these things. They don't have a job, they can't get a job, and they'll likely never get a job. They live in a shack in some shanty town, no DSTV, no Hinternet, nothing! Wouldn't you get bored? I would. So what do they do? They go and burgle a house, and proceed to have a fat party on the proceeds because it was so easy. Booze, mandrax, cheap whores, what a life! Then they come across some lonely housewife on their next burglary, and since they've still got remnants of last night's drug and booze fuelled festivities in them, they're feeling pretty horny on top of it. So they rape the housewife, then murder her so she can't identify them. It doesn't stop there. Burglaries are not that profitable - how about next time they do something big, like hijack a car? Much more profitable. Gun in the face, victim resists, gun goes off, we have another murder on our hands. Lots of money for the car, more drugs, more booze, more parties, more, more, more...

All that as a result of boredom. Give people something meaningful to do with their lives as opposed to wondering why they turn to crime when crime seems to be their only way out of the gutter, and you will find SA's crime rate dropping dramatically.

I am not saying getting people back to work is going to be easy, at all, but I am saying it is the ONLY solution SA has to its current situation.

...16 years that we are a democracy...

We are NOT a democracy and never have been under ANC rule. Giving a bunch of ignorant twats T-shirts, braai-ing a cow and bribing the traditional chiefs, kings and union leaders to command them to vote ANC is not democracy.

This is no secret that the ANC has taken a decision to keep Apartheid alive and well. They are using it to blame all their shortcomings on.

They also use it to blame their inabilities, education, crimes, intellectual capabilities, and more on.

Apartheid is long gone.

Those who still could not change after almost 15 years are simply animals who cannot be rehabilitated. They should be removed from the community.

If 15 years could not take Apartheid and its effects away - a thousands years would neither,

This is bull****.

Bull. There's simply no way to solve issues like 40-50% unemployment or building 15 million houses overnight.

Yup.

Nope.

Those who still could not change after almost 15 years are simply animals who cannot be rehabilitated.

That's the legacy of Apartheid for you.

They should be removed from the community.

Preferably with a noose?

True. You should hear the way my grandmother complains about how the Vikings raped her great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandmother...

This is bull****.

Yep. :D

About 25% on the unemployment side and almost 3 million on the house side.

lets see the SA population was at 40.6 million in 1994, lets say there was a 50% unemployment as posted by Synaesthesia meaning that the population being unemployed was at 20.3 million.
Currently in SA the population is estimated to be 50 million, now lets say our unemployment is at 25% as you pointed out, meaning the total unemployed people in this country is 12.5 million

so that leaves us with 7.8 million jobs being created, well done - if this is true, however given the current corruption situation in SA I can't help but not to trust the spin doctors of stats SA.

but according to these statistics from 1994 http://www.gprg.org/themes/t2-inc-ineq-poor/unem/unem-pov.htm the unemployment rate was around 26.2% in the narrow definition amongs African, my only logic tells me that the government is manipulating statistics,

according to this site, the unemployment was around 32.6% in 1995. http://countrystudies.us/south-africa/65.htm,

Almost the same as black people still blaming slavery for their current situation in America ?

Why is it that so many black people have a normal life and work hard for their income. Surely Apartheid must have made them into violent criminals as well ?
