If this must be imposed upon us at least provide an opt out so that we may view the forums without the cheap decorations.

I'm reasonably positive the rep system is not a "cheap decoration".

It was probably 100% free.

If only we can vote down or up articles published and their writers. Kinda stupid only being able to +pos keeping easy-hurt-feelings protected...

This bothers me way less than the ads. Now those are decorations worthy of a xmas tree...

A reputational endorsement is only as good as the reputation of the endorser.

Zuma gets a hundred thumbs-up from his pals. What a great reputation!

If you're going to have a Reputation system, then make the Reputation clickable so one can see who endorsed the person.

Otherwise it's pretty pointless, serving only to introduce a needless and pointless hierarchy.

Yes, thats why the "like" or "thanks" system works better. You get a list of the likes at the bottom of the post.

If you are a chop and like everything then it will be clear to everyone.

True enough.

Also - there is this little matter of

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to XXXX again.

So it means that if someone actually talks/writes a lot of sense - you can only give them creds occasionally. I 'get' why there are limits to reputation upvotes, but being able to upvote an actual post makes more sense to me.

how is the rep changing your life for the worse?

if you don't like it, don't use it. it's literally like 1 mm of screen space that its taking up.

The rep system has worked very well at MyGaming. Except there we can neg rep too. It's great because someone can say something terrible and boom, everybody neg reps and that person now has a red mark next to his/her name.

I don't like the rep system in its current implementation. If there was a larger button that said 'Thanks' that did the exact same thing, then people would be more inclined to reward helpful posters. As it is, it will probably never occur to 90+% of people that giving rep is an option.

So I'm voting no. I've already made my suggestion in the previous thread and no one cared.

Neg repping is terrible. What's to stop it being abused against a poster who is simply expressing an unpopular opinion? And how does destroying someone to the point where they'll probably leave the forum make any sense as a punishment for one bad post?

It doesn't happen very often. In fact it has only happened a couple of times over the last few years. Only *******s get neg repped. Why would one want an ******* in the community in any case? :) In general people are nice and you'll find that most people don't reg nep anyone. It's only those rare occasions where someone goes and intentionally work everyone up that a person gets neg repped. It's worked really well.

Quite a few on myg who was neg raped. Neo-something comes to mind...

However we should be able to up or down vote articles and their writers.

I've seen how bad mob justice can be on forums. Neg rep achieves nothing but further enabling of such situations.

Not everyone is a cheerful chipmunk. All forums have some unique characters that are still great to have around.

Could ask you the same: How is it that those people not wanting to see it is changing your life for the worse? I said 'opt in', not remove the system. If everyone had to walk around the supermarket displaying shopper reputation on their forehead, I would like to opt out of viewing it.
