If you have delivery vehicles they also have to be inspected and their registration numbers are added to the certificate of acceptability. As I said, this is the minimum requirement and not everybody abides by it.
BTW, it's not against the law to make a profit. Do yourself a favour and work out the running cost of your trailer and towing vehicle and then see what your distribution cost is going to be per kg. It may surprise you.

If you're an informal seller, just get a carcass and chop it up on the sidewalk ALA Gugs. Get a few honne to snuffel around too. You can then save even more.

R130 per kg for fillet (most likely a horse but anyway)... if you add 7% you're making R9 per kg, your petrol and time is worth more than that.

20% markup absolute minimum. You would then need to order like +100kg and freeze it properly, then you could sell any size etc, no minimum order.

Sell to friends, fine 100% Sell to the public I'd be kinda worried... not sure of the comeback should someone get seriously ill or die.

Would be C grade for that price. I know of a few upmarket supermarkets that sell C grade fillet as grass fed. They make a lot more than the 20% you mention.

the grading is just age, not the feed they were fed.

but yes I am sure many supermarkets and butchers sell old animals as young. The best is to just look on the carcass hanging up or if possible on the meat, the grade will be written on... easy to spot

C is the oldest for reference.

Correct. But nobody is going to feed an animal for that length of time, it'll simply cost too much. Fillet is the one cut they can get away selling C grade.
 
We have quite a few people who sell meat, vegetables and dairy products direct from the farm on WhatsApp for years already. Some as far as from Upington, others within a few kilometers of Pretoria East.
