Lost and Confused...
Hi guys

I am trying to help a friend who is restoring data from a tape drive using Symantec Backup Exec 12.5.

For the life of me, I can't figure out how to check what files and directories are stored on the tape. (We suspect the tapes may have been inserted incorrectly, a topic for another discussion).

Can anyone help me to restore the contents of a tape drive using Backup Exec?

Thanks!

1. Insert tape
2. Run Inventory on Tape
3. Run catalog on Tape
4. Select files to restore

I'm sounding like a complete idiot here, but I can't make any sense of this Backup Exec thingie!

Can you please give me more specific instructions?

Thanks!

Go to Devices Tab
On left hand side right click on Tape Drive
Select Inventory, let the job Run
On the right hand side when job is completes you will see the backup tape name
Right Click on tape drive again and select catalog, and wait for job to Finish can take a while, (Can monitor jobs by Job monitor Tab)

Once Complete go to Restore, And select Media and select what you want to restore
