Registing at birth is a different process. You are not acquiring a citizenship, you are merely registering your citizenship you are born into.

I guess it might have changed but what if you're not interested in keeping your SA citizenship?
 
Clarification: There is a difference between claiming citizenship (eg: UK Citizenship by birth) and applying for citizenship (eg: Emigrating and then following whatever path that country has to becoming a citizen). The latter is the case where you need to apply to DHA to retain your SA citizenship.

EU. But as someone else mentioned on this thread, they had to do the same for UK

But you apply for the passport of a specific country in the EU, you don't go to the EU embassy to apply.
Anyway, the issue is probably as Icarium has clarified above. I got my passport through naturalization, not immigration

No, it's full registration. Both my kids and I have dual citizenships: id's, passports and social security, right to vote, even military callup.

There is no requirement from the UK to have any form of permission from SA before applying for UK citizenship, they couldn't care less if you retain SA citizenship or not.

Here's the application form, what page is the requirement for permission from SA appear on?

As the EU isn't a country, doesn't confer citizenship or issue passports I'm not really able to comment on that part of your claim, but the fact you think you apply for EU citizenship speaks for itself...

I wasn't asking for you to comment Dave. I was mentioning a fact about my case when I acquired citizenship and I also mentioned the case of 'tilt' who went through the same thing for UK citizenship.
I specifically didn't mention the country, as I do not post under my real name here and do not want to give out too many personal details about myself. Nor is it relevant

We did the same applying for UK citizenship - we had a letter from DOHA stating we could retain SA citizenship. Too many posts, but AFAIK, this was not needed for children under 18 applying for UK citizenship. They retain their SA citizenship somehow.

And you're talking rubbish, no European country requires you to get permission from SA to apply for citizenship of the European country. Some European countries require special permission before you can take out their citizenship and retain your old citizenship (Germany and Austria come to mind) but that's nothing to do with permission from SA.

The permission requirement is something SA insists on, not the UK or any other European country.

I'll believe you when you provide a link to show where the UK (or any European country) requires you to seek permission from SA before being allowed to apply for citizenship of the UK (or other European country)...

Until the Constitutional Court strikes that part of the law, it remains the law
