Retarded speed limit in complex...

I asked for proof and they have yet to come back to me, this after threatening legal action. And yes, I go 15kmph always(still). They have no cameras (that I'm aware of) and this is purely the result of observers (or observer).

No kids running around, and no pets either. Like I said it's a huge open space. Going 10 while living at the other end of the complex is insanely slow.

And wrt the running in the complex, probably same as in Brisbane, where they fined cyclists for going over 10kmph :P

But yes, I'm in the process of moving to a sane place.

If no cameras, no acceptable proof so they can seat on their warnings ! Check the body corporate rules, but I doubt they would go in such details and I think an estimate of speed from an observer's testimony would be ruled out very quickly by any person with common sense.

I realise only now the luck I have of living in a complex with people having such common sense :p

The body corporate / caretakers of places like that often have nothing better to do with their lives than enforce petty rules and regulations. It's their world.

Ain't that the truth!

Slightly off topic: I moved into a new complex and they do not allow more than 2 remotes for the gate...I live there with my friend and my partner stays over basically everyday as he works in the area so 3 remotes would be ideal.

Now I have to wake someone up to let me out (as I leave very early) and have to pick up the remote from partner when I get back as he works later than myself.

Silly rules.

Just get a programmable remote. Hold button of current remote and it copies it. Problem solved

In our estate we have a limit of 20kmh and you get a**holes who fly through the estate doing +40km/h. Even at 20kmh you get some people who do not pay attention and there have been plenty of cases where it was a close call for pets/kids/runners/cyclists. (Worst part in our estate are traffic circles which none of the people with clown-cars can figure out).

Along with all the drivers from Centurion. Spoke to a colleague the other day and he said "Those traffic circles are mini-circles and you must treat them like stop streets." So I asked him then why not just put stop signs instead of the traffic circles, and he said "Because you only have to stop if other cars are coming to the circle". :wtf:

I didn't have the strength to explain to him what yield signs are.

I have constant issues with our "special traffic circle" (https://www.waze.com/editor/?lon=27.99159&lat=-25.99472&zoom=7 / https://www.google.com/maps/dir/-25.9945487,27.9917804//@-25.9950087,27.9915019,306m/data=!3m1!1e3) - it is marked as a circle, but yet you have one straight and one turn to the right - so ideally it should have been really setup as a T-junction and not a circle. So right now you have some "specialists" using it as a circle, others as a stop, others feel that anyone not on the straight road has to yield, some turn right in front of the island (into the oncoming traffic), others follow the circle (but then get sworn on by guys coming from the top on the straight) --- now I am just waiting for the HOA to put up speed-bumps to make this a true cluster-f*** (excuse the pun).

Do you do Waze map editing? I haven't done it for ages, but I found it soooo relaxing at the time.

Am I the only one wondering what the name of the complex/estate is? OP, give us the name before I accidentally move there :/

I am only a Level1 editor and managed to fix a few issues in the Fourways/Bryanston/Broadacres area - all started when Waze wanted to route me through the wall of a complex a few years back

of 10 kmph...

I pretty much walk that fast.

Is that really reasonable? I went 15 according to my GPS, which is 20 on the car's speedo (yea, huge discrepancy I know...) and I have no problem stopping in a few metres. My car almost stalls at 10 without working the bloody clutch.

Got two warnings already, for speeding (going 15) in the complex. And the best part is the common property where I'm 'speeding' is a huge piece of open land where you can see for at least 10 metres to your side and all the way to the other side of the complex in front of you...

/rant over

If you don't get fined for doing 69 in a 60 zone by the traffic dept, it seems you have a 9kmph "window".
So tell them to find something better to do with their time, with all the open land around you!

I was an area manager for large chunks of Joburg about 5 years ago... Got too busy and too gatvol of idjits steamrollering where roads are already correct

Haha, Bush Road 395 in Pretoria, El-Yon. And I was an owner, sale should be finalised within a few weeks. Hasn't been an AGM since they introduced the speed limit, and I missed the one prior due to being on site in the Northern Cape. :erm:

I LOVED house-sitting a place in the Serengeti Lifestyle Estate near Kempton, 60 speed limit in the main routes and 40 amongst houses. That's decent in a place with wide open spaces, IF you're an alert driver.

That being said, I can see how it could be dangerous going 40 around the circles there, with kids cycling along the sidewalks that cross the roads...

Pretoria? No chance if me living there then. Seriously move to JHB. Here we get to speed in our complexes.

Which circles are you talking about? The normal sized ones or the roundabouts?

EDIT: How do you think a mini-circle works?

Is the Speed Limit in the Registered Rules? If not, it is not enforceable. You should have a copy of the rules with the Deeds Office stamp on them. Dispute any so called rules that have not been registered.
