My 10yrs+ old Philips shaver still works well but it's getting pretty tired and I'd like to replace it.
I mostly use the shaver for the flat areas and use a Philips OneBlade for under the chin and all the finicky stuff.

Would a Philips 1000 series for R600 work well for that or is it worth paying around double to move up to a 3000 series shaver?
Going by the reviews I've read the legendary Philips shaver reliability with them lasting 10-20yrs is long gone and 2-3yrs is what you will get these days so if a 1000 series will do the job that may be the best bet considering it will probably die in a year or two.

I know it's sacrilege to ask in these parts but I'll ask anyway... are there any other brands of shaver worth considering other than Philips?

Also I notice on the higher end Philips shavers they now cheap out on the heads, many reviews mentioned how poor they cut in comparison to past models in that range. And many people pointed out that each shave head only have a one or two circles of cutting holes whereas in the past similar models would have three circles, which is why they used to give such a good shave.

I did notice with the Oneblade the entry level machine oscillated at a slower speed than all the models above it and when I got a better model I could see it was well worth paying the extra for the next model up.

On the 3000 series shavers they mention 55.000 cuts/minute but that spec is not given for the 1000 series.

Are you able to buy a replacement head? That's what gets old and results in less then effective cutting

Just get a jack-razor and a sharpening stone along with some oil.

These newfangled electric shavers are for metrosexual men.

I replaced my battery operated Philips with the Oneblade. Why do you still need anything else? This one uses the same blades as the expensive ones for only R300.

Not sure which model I have but I can confirm quality has gone down. Latest model feels weaker and takes a lot longer to do the same job as my previous Philips.

I replaced my 1990 model Phillips shaver about 5 years ago when the rechargeable battery died and replacement heads could not be sourced with a series 3000. Still in perfect condition. Heads can be replaced if necessary : https://www.takealot.com/philips-sh...RrvJWuwllGaOPyzxu00aArWXEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
Interesting, the 3000 and 1000 shavers use the same blade

The Oneblade can be messy and can't shave as close, for R200 more I can get a 1000 series shaver

Is it the 3000 or 1000 series

I might pull the trigger on this 1000 series, it's on promo today at R499 and it's the FNB day special so an extra 15% off
It's also the latest version with USB charging.

Still on special:

Agreed - you need one of these to catch the mess

There is a strong argument to be made in favour of using both types of electric shaver.

That was R999 yesterday, I almost pulled the trigger but it was late and I wasn't up to researching what it was about. I think the 1000 series one that's on for R499 today will be sufficient.
The reviews on both the various 3000 and 1000 models are so mixed from glowing to it’s a total POS that I don't think there is a huge difference between them and I don't have a very extreme beard so I can't see me going too badly wrong with the 1000 series.

Just shave in the shower. These cheaper shavers also don’t shave much closer.
I don't know how some people manage to get a clean shave in the shower, you can do a fair bit with a Shaver without looking in a mirror but with a Oneblade you need to see what you are doing to get the job done correctly.

Which of them are decent, they don't seem to have any cheaper models?
