Reviews and recommendations for Philips Shavers?

My Philips Series 3000 HQ6976 has been going strong for 11 years now, but the NiMH batteries are not lasting as long anymore. Anyone know if it's easy to replace the batteries? Any soldering required? Wondering if I should keep this one going or look for a newer model. The blades are still okay-ish.

I managed to replace the battery on a Philips body groomer a few years ago, it was a mission to get it open and the batteries are soldered on but if you can get that far it’s worth a shot. There's quite a few videos on youtube showing how to open them. That being said a brand new 1000 series is around R1k and that includes new cutting heads so perhaps worth it. The 1000 series one I just got works great
 
I ended up getting the Philips 1000 Series S1151/00 Wet & Dry Electric Shaver for R499.

It works really well, cuts closer than a OneBlade and far better than my older higher series Philips shaver(granted it was pretty tired). I don't have a very thick beard but it cuts great, no complaints and by some miracle it doesn't give me almost any razor burn under the chin, I almost don't need a OneBlade any more. Granted the OneBlade is still very useful to have because you can style and trim stuff and with the comb you can keep sideburns/moustache/beard in check.

Interesting topic, I stumbled upon this as I tried to figure out the differences between the 1000, 3000 & 3000X - It's all unnecessarily confusing, they should have just been given their own model numbers as the specs are fairly the same and they even use the exact same replacement head. Im now trying to figure out which one would be more powerful and AI says the 3000X is more powerful but has less shaving time per charge over the 3000 model.
I currently am using the ONE BLADE for 2 weeks which I bought to replace my rotary shaver but it's already showing the EJECT ICON to replace the blade, the specs says the blades last 4 months - I dont know where they get that as mine is tired in it's 2nd week already. Also with the ONE BLADE you cannot just shave quickly, you need to be at a mirror to see what is happening but other than short blade life it does give a great shave!
 
I have had my one blade for 2 years. Used 2 blades in total but the second blade is close to end of life now. I shave every second day just neck and cheeks. its a close enough shave that I dont mind its not razor close but it is good enough. had a lot of trouble with ingrown hairs and tried many razors and different brands. nothing works as well as the classic lion replacement blade razor, but the one blade is definitely the second best option.

The blade has two sides so it'll be 8 months. Mine lasts a year plus shaving every work day (I ignore the green or eject indicator and go by cutting efficiency). Also even with needing a mirror the oneblade is still faster than a rotary shaver. It takes me 2 minutes per shave vs 6+. Nevermind you can shave your whole body. It's easier to clean than a rotary you have to take apart every 6 months. Easier to travel with. Replacement blades are everywhere (got mine from a street vendor for R100 per blade) vs having to get them from https://www.slservices.co.za/? etc. No brainer.

I don't think you can go wrong with the 3000x, it’s a no brainer to get one at that price, I’m still totally happy with my 1000.

They are a real winner in combination with a Oneblade, use the Oneblade to finish up and trim any accruements on your face, beard/goatee/moustache/sideburns and awesome away on holiday shaver. My oneblade is still on it’s original blade for probably 2yrs now, ignore the indicator thing on them, you only replace them when they can't cut properly any longer.

Hmmm, so you spend 4 months shaving UP, and another 4 months shaving DOWN? I use mine in both directions!

2 years is impressive, mine feels blunt in 2 weeks already. I shave daily, If i skip a day then my face looks like I havent shaved in weeks. I tried disposable razors but I dont like having to rub chemicals in my face daily and besides i dont have the time to carefully shave.

I decided to not get the 3000x, one review reminded me of a previous philips shaver I had. It said the blade would randomly get stuck while shaving. One time I had a philips shaver that lasted over 5 years but needed replacement eventually and my replacement sounded very quiet as though it was weak and it too would occasionally get stuck. Ive now gotten a chinese replacement for 1/3 the price and if it doesnt work out then I will get the 3000X. In the past I've come across many good chinese ones like ANDOWL that would last me for years and I've even gifted these to others but recently the newer models are not the same in terms of cutting strength. Got a SOKANY today at a chinese shop and SOKANY is also listed as a brand on TAKEALOT.

if that chineese thing lasts a month I will be very suprised.

my bet is a week of daily shaving.

and it is very possible that your blade could feel blunt after such a short time, especially if you shave every day with it.

I have thick hair that luckily is not too coarse in the first 2 or 3 days. I also make sure to wash the blades after the shave, dry it off and leave it covered on my bedside table instead of in the bathroom. same with my Razor blades, I do not keep them in the bathroom, I keep them in my bedside table try and make sure there is less moisture to cause rust on the blades, makes them last longer.
 
LOL! I love glorified chinese e-waste. I've had luck with some lasting over 2 years! My previous one by the CRONIER brand lasted 2 days!

@Baxteen You say yours lasted 2 years, could be that the newer generation Philips is made more inferior to the older generation ones! as is with the rotary head shavers!

Shavers are quite difficult to get right, if you had got something made by Xiaomi or similar reputable Chinese brand then it may be decent but no name chinese trash, yeah that's money flushed straight down the drain, how much was it?
 
I'm scared the Xiaomi shaver might have an ad somewhere in it, I had a Xiaomi redmi note 10s and it had video ads pop up while using inbuilt xiaomi apps like the theme changer and the media player and randomly parts of the OS would be in chinese!

My SOKANY was only R240 at a China Town shop.
When it fails I'll definitely buy the Philips 3000x

Probably best to order the Phillips now so it arrives just as the chinesium one gives up.
 
LOL, no need for that, the glorified chinesium eWaste is still working great so far and it's so much quicker than the one blade and still on it's initial charge with a good 76% battery left. If it can keep it up like this for another 4 months then I will buy another of the same brand because it would have paid itself off by then compared to the price of ONE BLADE refills. There's a whole range of the same brand at the China Town store I bought it from.

My oneblade blades last a year + shaving every workday. Also only takes 2 minutes per shave. I've got 16 blades for R100 per each anyway at the street vendor so I'm stocked up till I die lol.
