cos its going to fail.... contracts users also have to register their sims... how is anyone going to register 500+ company sims..?? who is going to do that the CEO or the clarke of the company??

I think its money wasted.. as mentioned in one of the other posts, money could have been better spent generating newer technologies to fight crime or pay the police a little extra.. Besides those with fixed addresses already have their info on gov databases as Fica saw to that...

For me it's 5 years too late ... Someone has woken up way too late and the coffee just ain't there to smell no more ... 'cause its long gone evaporated.

I wonder if it wasn't just too inconvenient to all to launch this earlier. I mean was there financial incentive not to go this route earlier for someone? :cool:
 
RICA is pretty pointless but if they say jump we say how high.

Why does government not turn the RICA registration into a lottery of sorts. Run a few small adverts nation wide and let viral growth do the rest.

You could have a advert that says, register your cellphone number befor ex date and you could win R50million rand. All the official lottery outlets, vodacom shops, mtn etc could be used to collect the data and I am willing to bet that you will have everyone in South Africa registered within the month..

It will save the operators a few rands and one lucky south african will be dancing.. lol

anyway an idea, use it, loose it...
 
Yes Rica may fail and yes it may be 5 years too late but at least its better late than never

sure it takes some of your personal time to get registerd but at leasts there is some kind of data base out there who acces this data base is of a concern but as i understand it only the police and crimefighting institutions will have access to this information

stop griping and being sarcastic about this at least someone has taken a step in trying to do something

It will just increase cellphone theft, since it is now officially the recommended way of obtaining an untraceable sim card...

Steal a phone, commit your crime, dump it (or better, return it...)...

For longer term planning, etc. Use a secure VoIP protocol / encrypted IM / encrypted email, etc. (Or throw a secure VPN under insecure protocols...)

@robgun, you are consenting to give away your private information if you sign with RICA.

Apparently nobody is forcing you to use a cell phone, or an ISP.
 
Valid point. I have no holistic response to that. Just wonder what will happen when our water supply becomes legislated in the same way. Makes one realize how flimsy our constitution has become.
