RIP Dion Wired

I agree, however, Game do not sell Apple products, AFAIK, so it'll be interesting to see how this unfolds.

Yeah the things that don't have a home in the BU, or wider group will be discounted to move the stock as quickly as possible... That is the stuff to keep an eye on.

Right there, but both Apple stores and Incredible Deception do sell Apple product and have a much better selection.

Current router came from them (ADSL then, could luckily also do fibre). I had to buy something because old one died and couldn't wait for this delivery nonsense, and I wanted something decent, all the other places only had crap ones.

Hmmm for some things its better to go view a few physical products, like sofas or slaves, but not really for electronics, just Googling reviews narrows the choice then order online, sorted.

Pity. Their sales of old stock were the best that I have experienced. I have picked up many "last year"models at a massive discount.

I'll buy all of their air freshener cans at the liquidation auction. Man that place smells good.

This.

Also the fact that they'd rather be playing Fifa on the big telly at the front of the store instead of helping the customers.

It was Mortal Kombat 11 (bloody fatalities and all) at the Dion Wired in Canal Walk. Not the best Sunday morning visit with little kids.

Edgar's is next, retrenchments are up Heavy atm. We are a services company and getting knocked every month as our customers are getting fired left right and center.
It's not looking pretty atm. Reminds me of the early 80's.

Edgars has been a losing streak for some time

They survive on the interest charged customers for their over-priced merchandise

In the Cavendish Square (Claremont) branch, supposedly one of Cape Town's upmarket shopping centres, the staff are surly and ignore you.

Incredible Connection not much better. Two computers on display as you walk in. At the next counter, the clerk had no idea they were on offer and said there was no stock

Physical stores dying is a pity, because I find it useful to go there to look at something in person, especially laptops. It's difficult to get a feel for these things in just pictures.

My local Game might get more choice now, but so far it's a big-box retailer that has 60% of the store taken up by stuff that doesn't really sell.

not surprised, last time I walked into a Dion wired, no one helped me, when I finally got hold of someone they said they do not sell that item, then they found it on the shelf. The packaging was all damaged and it was at full price. meh...

I loved Dion in the 90's. But then came Game, then Makro, and I've probably walked into a Dion 4 times in the past 20 years.

Not surprised. They were aimed at the "price isn't an issue" market, which in SA is probably considerably less than 1% of consumers.

When you give lousy service the customers disappear.
Amazed this didn't happen sooner.
Next one gone will be Incredibly Crap service,

Dion in our city long closed down for no business. Game, incredible, HiFi next in line. our economy is fekd up
