RIP Paul Walker

Wonder what caused of crash.

From the pics it looks like they were speeding well over the limit (72kmph); but what caused the car to burst into flames - it was a 2005 model? was it modded? damn way to go

Did you notice the tree stuck halfway through the car?

I read somewhere after questioning why a Ferrari had split in two, that some of these mid engined supercars are designed to split in half on a side impact - that should split fuel and engine heat so fire is not going to happen very easily...too many "should's" I know, but something went seriously wrong. It is not difficult to get a Porsche going sideways at a relatively low speed by hoofing it out of a corner -0 tail comes out and you have a spectacular drift without harming anything but your tyres.

Now if you did that, and then clipped a sidewalk in the process, things can go wrong very quickly ~ I'm probably way off the mark, but it's something to think of. I have spent many hours in 911's on tracks and skid pans when I worked for LSM Porsche Advanced Driver Instruction in the 80's, and if you aren't anticipating that tail coming out, it can do it very quickly and catch you out.

Apparently Roger's 8yrld son saw the accident and tried to run and get his dad out. Both Paul and Rogers bodies are so badly burnt that they are unidentifiable and so dental records will have to be used :o

Very sad, I'm a car nut, I've grown up watching F&F since the very 1st one, fell inlove with the franchise, could I also say F&F possibly saved EA's Need For Speed brand? NFS Underground had me and my friends trying to recreate some of the cars in F&F, it brought life back to NFS.

Anyway, I'm a major F&F fan, and the last 3 movies have been nothing short of entertaining. Paul was no Leonardo Di Caprio, but he played the roll of Brian O'Connor very well and was great in the film Into the Blue, such a shame his life was cut so short, condolences to his daughter, family, friends and fans, same to Roger Rodas family and friends :( what a way to go. It does sound like that particular Carrera GT had some issues, a mixture of speed and steering malfunction ultimately led to their end. R.I.P

With that said, isn't the Porsche Carrera GT well known as the 'widow maker'??? I've heard of a few horrific accidents involving it, between it and the 911 GT2, both have quite a history of bruising egos and taking lives.

Perhaps the car was modded that all these things that should happen, didn't?

The Carrera GT doesn't need to be modded tbh. It's a bastard of a car stock "standard" as is. And yeah, I reckon "widow-maker" is a suitable moniker for it.

Indeed, one would have to be crazy to even think of modding a Carrera GT, its a beastly thing. Apparently the one Paul and Roger died in was quite the handful even for professional drivers. The Carrera GT in itself has been known to easily oversteer at high speed and be generally unstable, if I had the money and owned one the only modding I'd do is to make it more stable.

According to eye-witnesses they weren't racing or drifting when the accident happened. There were also police present at the event because of the large number of performance cars that were there.

Just watched CCTV footage and they were out on their own as far as can be seen - don't seem to be any other cars around either.

Unfortunately the camera just picks up the bang and then the car bursting into flames - you cannot see anything before that.

Pity the crash didn't happen in Russia, there would be about 30 different angles of the crash by now.

Vin Diesel visits crash site

Vin Diesel has visited the site of the car crash that killed his "Fast & Furious" co-star Paul Walker, thanking mourners for paying their respects to the actor.

Diesel's remarks Monday night came at the end of a candlelight vigil for Walker and his friend and fellow fast-car enthusiast Roger Rodas. They died Saturday when Rodas' red Porsche smashed into a light pole and tree, then exploded in flames.

Fans have been gathering at the crash site to leave flowers, candles and memorabilia from the action movies.

Diesel thanked the people for "showing that angel up in heaven how much you appreciated him."

Walker crash not part of street race

The neighborhood where "Fast & Furious" star Paul Walker died in a fiery crash is known to attract street racers, but law enforcement officials do not believe the Porsche Paul Walker and a friend were riding in had been racing another car.

Accident investigators "have received eyewitness statements that the car involved was traveling alone at a high rate of speed," the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said in a statement Monday. "No eyewitness has contacted the (department) to say there was a second vehicle."

Walker and his friend and fellow fast-car enthusiast Roger Rodas died Saturday when Rodas' 2005 Porsche Carrera GT smashed into a light pole and tree, then exploded in flames. The posted limit was 45 mph (72 kph).

The two had taken what was expected to be a brief drive away from a charity fundraiser and toy drive at Rodas' custom car shop in Valencia, about 30 miles (48 kilometers) northwest of Los Angeles. Walker's publicist said the action star was the passenger.

The crash happened on a street that forms an approximately 1-mile (Nearly 2 kilometer) loop amid industrial office parks. It is rimmed by hills and relatively isolated from traffic, especially on weekends when the businesses are closed.

"It's well-known out here that that's a hot spot for street racers," California Highway Patrol Sgt. Rick Miler said.

Skid marks are a testament to past antics on the loop. The sheriff's department, which polices the neighborhood, said Saturday's wreck was not the first speed-related crash there, but would not reveal specifics.

Meanwhile, investigators are consulting video from security cameras, talking to witnesses and analyzing physical evidence such as on-board computer data from the Porsche.

A steady stream of fans has flocked to the crash site to leave flowers, candles and memorabilia from the action films.

On Monday night, a private memorial for survivors and the cast and crew of the "Fast & Furious" movies was held inside a white tent erected around the crash site. When it was over, Walker's co-star Vin Diesel emerged to thank fans for paying their respect to the actor.

"Thank you for coming and showing that angel up in heaven how much you appreciated him," Diesel said to the crowd, using the bullhorn of a police cruiser.

Officials have not named either person found in the car. The bodies were so badly burned by the fire that engulfed the wreck that dental records will be needed to confirm their identities.

Walker and Rodas had bonded over their shared love of fast cars.

Rodas, 38, and Walker, 40, co-owned an auto racing team named after Rodas' shop, Always Evolving. Rodas was a financial adviser as well as a professional driver who competed in 10 Pirelli World Challenge GTS races in 2013. He finished second in rookie of the year standings, circuit spokesman Dave Drimmie said.

Walker starred in all but one of the six "Fast & Furious" blockbusters. He had been on break from shooting the latest installment; Universal Pictures has not said what it plans to do with "Fast & Furious 7," currently slated for a July release.

From the looks of that car I suspect speed was involved.
