RIP Paul Walker

I wish people would be this concerned about stuff like this:

Big fiery crash, except he was someone doing a lot of good in the world. Why are our priorities so skewed towards pretty faces?

I was doing some reading up on Paul Walker and he seems to have been doing some really charitable and altruistic things himself. Charities, donations, and actual involvement as opposed to a tax-break abuser.

RIP. Hope his friends and family continue his charity work...

not quite sure who this actor was nor do i know of this person you speak ok copa. but what i can say is this, an unknown won't bring in the same amount of attention and money as a celebrity does, and it would seem this celebrity did his bit for charity, more than the unknown you waffling on about. no disrespect meant.

Yes, that was sort of my point (although [for perspective], I am an unknown, Michael Hastings, on the other hand, well, read up on him if you could be arsed).

But, christ, it was just a simple personal observation, I don't know why the hell everyone is so up in arms about it, but again, it kind of makes my point (the fervour of our interest in people just because they are famous).

That's great, and I must stress again, that my comment was in relation to the reaction of the general public, not the guy himself. Although, now that I've jumped in, I'm glad he was a kickass person who did good stuff, as I found him to be a very underwhelming actor.

why is everyone acting like they know him personally ? chain messages going around saying "drags in honor of paul" did he even drive the cars himself in the movies?

No of course not, they just photo-shopped his face on another actor during the filming. ;)

people take the idolising of celebs a little too far. Some would rather watch attractive,if not so talented actors, racing souped up cars on TV than spend their time reading up on major world events so naturally they are more familiar with him.

Secondly the notion that celebs are making such significant personal contributions is a myth. When you take into account their financial wealth a celeb donating a million to a good cause is like a forumite here giving a car guard ten rand. Not something that would earn anyone around here an eulogy I dont think.

So lets keep some perspective here. Having said that its an awful thing to have happen to someone who by all accounts was good and decent person. Certainly a loss to many.

I don't see why you can't just can't be sad about the fact that an actor died? Celeb or not, I would like to think that he an impact on millions of people (F&F fans) and that to me is a decent enough reason.

I never really liked the guy, but I agree he made a big contribution in bringing about street racing to cinema. I didn't even know he did much for charity, so thumbs up to him. Point is, the guy died, he had fans and they have reason to be sad. WHo we are we to judge?

RIP Paul Walker.

Love him or hate him, love the series or hate it - but one thing that nobody can deny is that they made cars cool again.

And yeah most of the movies generally weren't that great, but the last 2 were admittedly not that bad.

RIP :(

Wow a little bit shocked by this....not the nicest thing to read so early on a Monday morning. :(
RIP bro.

Guess he lived his life a quarter mile at a time .... except this last one went sour...

He was a good dude, did a lot for chairty. Him being at a charity event at the time of his death should give some inclination of this.

I was well shocked at the news. And that footage is heartbreaking. No one should endure that!

Speed a factor in crash: Officials

Fans of "Fast & Furious" star Paul Walker created a makeshift memorial Sunday at the site where a car he was riding in crashed, killing the actor and a friend.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department says speed was a factor in the one-car crash in the community of Valencia, about 30 miles (48 kilometers) northwest of downtown Los Angeles. Deputies found a 2005 red Porsche Carrera GT engulfed in flames when they arrived Saturday afternoon.

On Sunday, fans of Walker, 40, gathered to leave flowers, candles and memorabilia from the action film franchise.

Walker's publicist said Sunday that the other person in the car was Roger Rodas, a friend of Walker's who owned a sports car dealership in Valencia.

Ame Van Iden said the actor was the passenger, though the sheriff's department did not confirm that.

The Porsche crashed into a light pole and tree and burst into flames. The downed light pole had a speed limit sign of 45 mph (72 kph).

Sheriff's deputy Peter Gomez said investigators are working to determine how fast the car was traveling and what caused it to go out of control, including whether the driver was distracted or something in the road prompted him to swerve.

Walker and Rodas had attended a fundraiser benefiting victims of the recent typhoon in the Philippines. The event was held by Walker's Reach Out Worldwide, a charity he founded in 2010 to aid victims of natural disasters.

The fundraiser and toy drive took place at Rodas' custom car shop, Always Evolving. Attendees rushed to the nearby crash to try to put out the flames with fire extinguishers.

Bill Townsend, who attended the event, told AP Radio that Walker appeared very happy at the fundraiser.

"He was smiling at everybody, just tickled that all these people came out to support this charity," Townsend said. "He was doing what he loved. He was surrounded by friends, surrounded by cars."

The "Fast & Furious" star had been on break from shooting the seventh installment of the Universal Pictures franchise. Production began in September and while much of the film has been shot, it's incomplete.

Universal has not yet said what it plans to do with "Fast & Furious 7," which is currently slated for release in July.

"Your humble spirit was felt from the start," Ludacris, Walker's "Fast & Furious" co-star, said on Twitter. "Wherever you blessed your presence you always left a mark, we were like brothers."

His "Fast & Furious" co-star Vin Diesel posted a photograph of him and Walker arm-in-arm on Instagram with the message: "Brother I will miss you very much. I am absolutely speechless."

Walker rode the "Fast & Furious" franchise to stardom, starring in all but one of the six action blockbusters, beginning with the first film in 2001. The blond-haired, blue-eyed Los Angeles-native brought California surfer good-looks and an easy, warm charm to the popular street-racing series.

Walker is survived by his 15-year-old daughter.

He stars in the upcoming Hurricane Katrina drama "Hours," which Lionsgate's Pantelion Films is to release Dec. 13. He also stars in "Brick Mansions," a remake of the French action film "District B13" that Relativity plans to release next year.

did james dean die again? just checking.

And your point is?

Paul Walker was not only a half decent actror, but an incredible humanitarian who was using his money to give back to charities. He was a GOOD person.

He will be sorely missed - and yes, he and James Dean both died too young, and both in Porsches, if that's what you are trying to say.
