Good day isie

As per the screen capture attached RocketNet have implemented the package and price change on the Vumatel shop to alert all new potential clients.

We have removed the 4/1 option as this will be phased out by Vumatel as of the 01.03.2019

Kind regards

Hi @Ronald-RocketNet

yep i noticed - and saw the same with CISP and a few others (I'm 20/2 so no issue personally)
My issue is not with the ISP's but Vumatel - they outright deny its their doing.

@Ronald-RocketNet You might want to check that email, support@rocketenet.co.za will probably bounce. ;)

@Ronald-RocketNet
I emailed [email protected] and after prompting you about no response I can confirm that I did get a reply.
However, the response was that there is no way you will offer the pre-January pricing as you did for the rest of the peninsula.
I consider the ticket closed as I will sign up with Macrolan. Thanks

What are we jealous about?

@Ronald-RocketNet I get the monthly charge. I understand the installation fee. But for the love of me I cannot get my head around the activation fee. Please explain to us why this is needed and what it is used for. This is a simple question and we would appreciate it if we could get a simple and honest answer from yourself.

Good day

When providing a client with a service we are charge the following by the FNO (Fibre Network Operators)

-Installation fee
-Activation fee
-Monthly line rental

On Octotel network we cover free installation of R1725. Octotel then charge us R1500 exc vat to have a client go live on their network.

Let’s say RocketNet did not have:
https://www.rocketnet.co.za/terms-and-conditions/ 7.6.1.1 in place we would loose out on

R1725(installation fee) + R1500 exc vat (activation fee)

Total = R3450

If we had 10 clients signing up with us and moving within the first 3 months we would loose out on a total of R34500.

The activation fee is paid directly to the FNO and RocketNet do not benefit from this cost.

Kind regards.

Good idea.

I just saw MarcoLan's month-to-month offerings with no set up fee.

That's how it should be done. I think I'll also give them a try and see

Be careful to throw the baby out with the bathwater. Just because they'll opt to wave the installation fee doesn't mean they have good service or good quality speeds

But if you like pinching pennies to the nth degree, have at it. You'll more than likely spend more time and energy screaming at "support" than you would using someone decent.

Not about pinching pennies ultimately. About finding the right service provider with business practices that actually aren't questionable. Besides, MacroLan isn't exactly a fly by night pop up ISP.

Let's just face reality - NO ISP is great but offering the consumer the freedom of month-to-month affords consumers the opportunity to actually try and test the worth of an ISP as opposed to getting tied in despite the inevitable terrible service coming down the line at some point.

@Ronald-RocketNet

Is this a new charge from OCTOTEL as of Jan 2019?
"Octotel then charge us R1500 exc vat to have a client go live on their network."

If not, then you have lost out thousands on all the installations prior to December 2018 - not so?

That is my point -- not the amount of R1.5k but the fact that all of a sudden it is introduced.

If OCTOTEL is now charging this as of Jan 2019 then it's a moot point.

Good day

We can confirm that Octotel have always charged an activation fee of R1500 exc vat and prior to Jan 2019 RocketNet covered this cost on behalf of the client.

RocketNet then sat down and revised the billing system as well as the initial start up cost and came to the conclusion that an activation fee should be brought forward.

Kind regards.

Can I downgrade from 20/2 to 10/2? How long it takes? If I don't like the speed and want back the original speed, how long will it take again? Anyway, is that any additional charge regarding downgrade and upgrade? Thanks

Good day

We require 1 calendar month notice to have a line downgraded, should you not be happy with the speed you may request and upgrade that will be auctioned within 12 - 24 hours.

I can confirm that there is no fee to upgrade or downgrade a line other then that of the monthly cost of the new package selected.

Kind regards
