Rocketnet - feedback?

Why do you route like this if I may ask, why should my traffic go to what looks like PE, then maybe Jhb, then back to cpt? Neotel routing perhaps?

Trace from Cape Town, on Neotel, to my home in Cape Town, on Vuma Rocketnet

tracert 45.222.24.153 - My public IP, no worries if anyone tries to hack it

No WAN details to fill in, just set to DHCP and that's it.

I think this varies according to the infrastructure owner and area. On my side of town, we need to have a username and password. In Fourways, they don’t have to.

Is it possible to use your own router and then fill in the WAN details?

As above, just confirm with your ISP but at least half the time it’s possible. My personal favourite is a Ubiquiti USG gateway or an EdgeRouter X.

Back on topic, 9 months later I am still happy with RocketNet. I’ve noticed less-than-desirable response times on tickets but people such as Mohamed give me hope.

I’ve also enquired about a more proactive notification system so that we are all in the know when there’s an outage. For now, it’s under investigation until a cost-effective solution is found.

Ive been with them for a month and a half and still very happy. Initial (and only) interaction with support guys was insanely good.

Ping this for me please, its a gaming IP for World of Warcraft, curious as to ping from Joburg 185.60.112.157

We have been with Rocketnet for about 6 months and they have their moments. To be fair they will be absolutely great for a month with awesome connectivity and speeds and then there will be the odd week where it's a night mare and you experience constant disconnect (Usually after the help desk is closed so there's no one to contact) I'd give them a 7 out of 10. Really wish they would communicate with their customers when there are issues so we atleast know why!

My issues haven't been with Rocketnet, but the fibre network itself (put in by vumatel) More often that not someone crashes into a pole two blocks down, taking out the whole streets' fibre for a day or two.

Hi Ronald

Since last week we have been experiencing terrible latency on browsing and slow speeds on downloads, both international - over the past weekend it was especially bad. When performing a speed test to London or Frankfurt I get around 20Mbps on my 100/100 line (Vumatel underground, with all devices connected via ethernet), which in my opinion is definitely not acceptable.

Can you please advise what the problem is, as this is certainly not the level of service we received at the beginning - it almost appears as though traffic is being throttled and/or shaped in some form, or there is not enough bandwidth to service all of the customers. The worst times of the day are between 17:00 and 00:00.

Hi there

This is definitely not what we want our customers experiencing, so we will take this very seriously and sort it out and get back to you with a full report.

I’ve sent this to our Head of Technical and Core Routing to investigate.

Have you logged a ticket and if so do you have a ticket ref.
