Rocketnet - feedback?

I spent most of this past weekend watching my internet speed keep to a rather steady 40kb/s.

Instead of acid flashbacks, it's dial-up flashbacks.

Power-cycling the CPE and my router only turned off the the internet for a few minutes, did nothing for the speeds...

Local sites are fine at 100/100... but considering this is SA and most of the good internet stuff is international... 40kb/s is painful...

Super happy!

I have been on the RocketNet 20/20 package for about 3 months now and I am super happy with everything so far. Had a bit of a hiccup once and phoned the call center after 20:00 in the evening and the agent was really friendly and sorted my problem out in like 5min.

Most of my data is used for online gaming and downloading games on PS4. I get a steady 18ms ping (LAN cable connection) to Battlefield 1 local servers and a steady 20ms ping over wifi. Downloading torrents (depending on seeders) I get around about 1Mbps download speed. I download a 30GB file in no longer than 4 hours over wifi. Stuff like Showmax streams effortlessly on the highest rate (can't remember the last time I've seen the buffering icon:)). Only when I add online gaming to that connection I get latency spikes like crazy. Coming from a Telkom adsl line to this was like winning the lottery!

I will recommend RocketNet to anyone that wants a decent provider. Plus they don't shape or throttle and that makes a huge difference.

18 ms isnt that great (ADSL and 4G ms), you should be getting around 2-3 ms on dota, CS 5ms and battlefield even. Seems like you might be on a wireless link for your fibre, many seem to be doing that these days for certain places.

I am in CPT and the Battlefield servers are in JHB. I'm not super tech savy so don't know how much of an impact that makes on my ms. I'm happy with it. As I mentioned I used to have an adsl line and that was the worst. My router is about 1.5m away from my consol so the interferences aren't much either.

18ms CPT to Johannesburg is good.

I've been getting that from random places on the web. My one download from Helsinki trudges at 200Kb/s while a download from London goes at full 20Mb/s on a 20/20 line.

Tried to open a ticket to ask why the different speeds on different routes and was sent a reply detailing the inconsistencies of using wifi to test speeds :wtf:

Update: Seems like the issue is now resolve with regards to the slow download to Helsinki. Will keep monitoring it.

Wahahahaha, yeah... either it's a pre-scripted response or a bot replied... or one hell of a lazy human...

The thing that irks me, is yes, the internet is moer fast most of the time... but sometimes, you click on a link to open something and it just sits there for a few seconds doing nothing and then the page loads...

STAY AWAY FROM ROCKETNET

On the 15th of May I put in a request for Fibre ,as Kensington has gone live, with Vumatel and RocketNet.
On the 4 th of June I follow up with RocketNet on progress. Due to there vague answer and time delay in coming back, I decided to call Vumatel whom confirmed that RocketNet has cancelled the work order, got an email confirmation from Vumatel in that regards.
Mohammed at RocketNet told me that Vumatel has 2 applications from Rocketnet on record and Vumatel only cancelled one and the other work order is still on track for installation.
Now after 3 weeks later nothing has happen, contacted Mohammed, and was told RocketNet is waiting for Vumatel.
Muhammed tried to pull the wool over my eyes by sending me an old work order request from the 4th of June. I called Vumatel again and they reconfirmed that Rocketnet has cancelled the service and I have to lodge a new installation request with Vumatel.
Let this be a warning to other potential Fibre customers STAY AWAY FROM ROCKETNET, you are dealing with a company that is not honest to there customers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! More then Likely ex Telkom employees working at Rocketnet.

Rocket Net cant cancel an order from Vumatel - Vumatel handles your installation all rocket net can do is activate you ISP service and then too only once vumatel has activated your line

Good day Sir/Madam

Please may you provide us with a reference number so that I can follow up with our team, as this does not seem like something we would do at Rocketnet, once we have received all the information we will communicate with Vumatel and have management have this seen to as we do not cancel application without reason.

Good Day

Vumatel confirmation email from the 15th May 2018 , ref #: VA 15518-82154.
Wednesday 27th June at 13.52 I had an lady on the phone from Vumatel she reconfirmed that my application was cancelled by the ISP.
BUT she refuses to say which ISP it was!! I can assure you that I never cancelled.

Update:

A great response from Rocketnet on this forum.
Got a conference call from Mohammed, with a representative from Vumatel on the other line.
it transpired during the conversation that Vumatell has been failing there new customers.
Have to thank the representative of RocketNet on this forum to escalate it speedily and Mohammed for getting Vumatel on the phone to explain.
Now after 6 weeks lets see how soon I can expect the installation.
BUT, why was it necessary for me to take to this forum to have my issue resolved( hopefully)??

I'm glad you sorted, but i will be facetious and say i told you so.
Vumatel seriously sucks, and unfortunately for the ISP they get a lot of the blame -
