Roku 3 Setup for dummies

I need some help adding netflix, hulu and crackle to my roku topbox.

I have narrowed it down to my roku account where the problem is.
I have uotelly up and running and can access netflix and hulu from any browser and any ipad in the house.
Thus that says my unotelly is working.

On the roku I cant see any of the above channels
When
I navigate on a browser to the roku channel site and tynto add netflix or hulu it just says thatits not available in my region.

So what does my roku account look like.
My address is beverly hills(was not in the mood to look for any other zipcodes)
I used my fnb credit card as pauyment.

But nou luck its just refussnto add my channels for me.

Please help I really want my roku to work.

You have to setup your Roku account in the correct region by using a VPN. Once your account is set up you can just use the normal DNS settings from Unotelly.

You should also enable your spell checker :p

Lol yip sorry about the spelling not used to the tablets keyboard.

So just to get it straight to get Netflix working on Roku.
1. Get Unotelly and add DNS settings in router.
2. Get the free VPN from Unotelly and activate it on the pc you will be signing up with Roku account.
3. Reset to Factory settings / Hard reset the Roku device.
4. Sign up with Roku on a complete new Email address that you have not used previously on Roku.
I think this is where I need a bit more clarification.
5. Can you sign up with your local FNB/other bank Credit Card on the Roku website?
5.1 If NO then what other options do we have.
6. What is the billing address that we need to add in the section.
6.1 Unotelly is disabled at the office so I cant access it now.
But I saw they do mention that you can use your own local postal code but just prefix with zeros until you have 5
digits. For example we only have four digits in our postal code so instead of 1234 ours will then have to be 01234.
Do we not need to put an US zip code in the preferred block or do they check to where your credit card is linked?
Or can we add a US address for instance New York, Manhattan 10001.
7. Link the Roku to your new account.

Done.

Please help out for the future Roku dummies.

Regards

Hi there!

Have been trying to log into my router to change DNS settings for the last 12 hours - not allowing me access and I am ready to bash the router and my brand new Roku!!!

I have had Unotelly for a long time and I now upgraded to a VPN service as well - is this enough or do I still need to change the blasted DNS settings on the router?

Yes you need to change the settings in your router. What router do you have? It's probably just set to the default password like admin, admin.

Yes. Go to 10.0.0.2 on a browser that is on the wifi network so that you can access the router settings. Add the DNS as found on the website for Jhb and Cape Town. Enjoy the viewing :-)

Hi!

Thanks - got the DNS settings changes and also added static route. Hulu works and some other channels, but no Netflix....so frustrated....

Quick question has anyone setup a Roku using a UK account? I need to get BBC I player & ITV player on my Roku - I would also like to know if I can use a SA credit card when setting up for UK? thanks in advance

I don't know about payment options, but I set up a Roku with UK channels for a friend and everything works fine. I think my US set-up Roku uses my PayPal account and it doesn't have issues so I doubt there would be issues with the UK version.

Thanks John - next question - do you just choose a region? (haven't got my roku yet - waiting for a takealot special haha - they are R1500.00 at the moment!!)

When you setup a UK account, make sure your connected to VPN when creating the account, unotelly has the option, 3 day free trial, i used that... you also have to create to separate roku accounts if you want to use us and uk profiles... if you have 2 rokus, then its great, if you got 1 roku and want to do that, you have to reboot your roku all the time and thats not so lekker

i have a us roku in the lounge and uk in the bedroom, got itv, bbc, netflix, all working great...

Good Morning,
I have a very strange problem my roku 3 will not connect via ethernet cable & only works off my wi-fi any thoughts please?

All I know it was working on my mede8er before we changed the router on Saturday once the router was changed it no longer worked - I got the message on the mede8er saying path not found (assumed it was because I had changed ISP's?) & then when plugged to the Roku nothing? there is light on the switch at the back of the roku but I have 4 cables plugged into the router & don't know which is which:confused: I assume they are all giving power but will take another look - I am really fed up with this whole thing!! spent so much time trying to set it up - wanted to do UK ended up in USA only thing that works decently is Hulu - can't even get the media browser to work properly - netflix tells me I'm in the wrong region FFFFSSS!!

To address some of your issues:

1. Check your LAN cables to see if you don't have a bad cable (always eliminate the obvious first), then check that it is working on another device. If so then try again and see what error it gives on the Roku.
2. If you want to switch from US to UK account then you need to create a new Roku account. First ensure you are connected to a UK-based VPN then go to roku.com/uk and create your account. Do a factory reset on the Roku and link your Roku to the new UK account while still connected to the VPN.
3. Netflix is hard coding their DNS to Google DNS, so to get past this you need to set up a static route on your router to bypass this, Unotelly's site has guides on this (http://help.unotelly.com/support/solutions/articles/192836-why-do-i-need-to-block-public-dns)

Thanks I have got the info regarding Netflix this morning from unotelly which I will try - I have been watching a series on Hulu so don't want to switch back to UK just yet but when I do I will do what you said - I also heard Netflix has much more content in the USA than UK - As for the LAN it connects to the first point (ethernet) then won't connect to the router or internet so I'm assuming the cable is faulty ....
