Hey everyone

I am in the market for choosing an ISP as my Telkom LTE 20GB package just isn't lasting and am now doing a lot more streaming.

Having been doing some research the last few weeks and reading through these forums I was originally just going to go for Web Africa's cheap uncapped deal at 4Mbps (This is the fastest I can get at my place). A few spanners have been thrown into the works regarding shaping, even at night when I will be utilizing the account. I also read that this happens on their capped accounts too?

I then went through the consideration of waiting for Afrihost to bring out their new prices which they are promising and seeing if a 100GB capped account with afrihost+ add on would work for me as I also saw some comments about no shaping on the capped accounts at all and that their network issues are now a thing of the past.

Lastly, I read a comment or post on here from someone who said they have been on many ISP's and found that RSAWEB uncapped to be brilliant and they are very lenient on their FUP and hardly ever shape their traffic anyway.

I have been trawling around the forums to see if anyone else has experience with RSAWEB on an uncapped package before making up my mind to no avail so thought I would just post and see if anyone has any advice on how to proceed.

Please note that I will be streaming everyday and also using for downloads, updates and general internet usage.

Thanks in advance!

Stay the **** away.

They can't even look after business customers...so imagine how you as a poor end user will be treated.

well apparently not many people have much to say about them, guess I'll wait to see what new offerings Afrihost come out with and decide from there...

I've been on crystal webs 4mb premium uncapped now for a few weeks. I hate to sound like a rep, but I couldnt ask for more.
Streaming, downloads, updates. Everything runs perfectly 24/7.

I do a bit of gaming as well, but that usually happens when the family's asleep. International latency is in the 180-190ms region. Been fiddleing with qos on my router. I get a sort of stable 230ms when my family is doing their thing.

All in all, I'd highly recommend them.

200 ping to london with CW.
150 ping to london with vox.
Local is 10+ms compared to vox whilst on CW.

Honestly people shouldn't be shilling this hard for expensive data.

On topic:

Signed up with RSAWEB for fibre, they got me in front of the queue for fibre. Within 5 days I got a call from Telkom with a scheduled date best suited for me. RSA has followed up on almost every email from me within 10 minutes.

Depends on what your needs are.
Streaming for entertainment and lynda, for myself and my family is at the top of my list.
We have a 7 month old, so I dont get to game as often. When I do, I can live with 180-190ms. Ive had worse :) haha.

For people where gaming is at the top of their hierchy, by all means, get the packkage/isp that works best for you.

Nice to see you are around again.

The Vox and CW latency contest is very location dependant.

My buddies in Tableview get better latency on Vox, I get better latency on CW again in Brackenfell.

Either way it's paper value inconsequential.

Also 150 ping I would call an anomaly. Not an average.

I get 153ms ping to London with CW, often. Just to add on, my neighbour has the same pings with WA.

Back when I had a fibre line with ISPAfrika, the package included a 10GB data account that I treated as a backup. It was a resold RSAWeb account, and was faster than any account I'd ever used before and have ever used since. Upon discovering it was a resold account I headed over to the RSAWeb website but discovered that their prices were terrible. I think it was R1k for 200GB.

I have no idea if their network has been negatively impacted by their price cuts, but I was curious about RSAWeb's 40Mbps uncapped offering, as my family is complaining that having a capped account is a pain in the ass and because their price is amazing. RSAWeb claimed over the phone that they don't ever throttle and shape very lightly. These developments were putting ideas into my head, until I asked about their cancellation policy and what they said put it on par with Mweb's cancellation policy (i.e. minimum 1 full month must pass).

So I lost interest and forgot about that. By the way - their capped accounts don't include any uncapped or bonus midnight data.

Thanks for all the info guys, much appreciated even though there is not alot of feedback regarding a 4Mbps uncapped account with RSAWEB.

Im looking for good bang for buck and RSAWEB come in cheaper than WA when getting the line through them too, CW prem are like another R200 more.

I will look more into the cancellation policy as if I'm not happy with the service I will be wanting to jump ship asap.

All said and done I am still waiting for telkom to pull their finger out just for the bloody landline activation...

I phoned them yesterday to move just my line (test the waters so to speak), they refused and told me I HAVE to have a data package as well! and then he even quotes me the line price R33p/m more than what is advertised on their website! Point is I told them thank but no-thanks and moved my line to iSAT!

My company uses 30mb synchronous fibre shared between ~50 of us, and in the almost 2 years we've used them we've had zero downtime that actually affects us.

(Removed our IP address for security :))

This is all with everyone here active on the network, lots of people streaming youtube and everyone pulling emails and browsing, and lots of VPNs with activity. I'm also on Wireless at the moment :)

Super impressed with RSAWeb. Granted, we pay them a lot for their services (2 year contract and the prices haven't changed), but we've never needed any support from them.

We also informed them we're planning on moving premises and they're looking to keep us with them and want to go where we move.

Hijack, and calling BS lol. I've got 300ms to London w/ my Vox and 190 w/ my WA. No gaming makes Agel a sad boy so looking at other options now.

EDIT: Oh nvm, I'm talking about ADSL, not Fibre

My apologies for the necro but thought I should come back and comment on this.
Contacted CW support, who suggested a router reboot.

International ping is now on a stable 162ms. This is on an uncapped account. :)

My experience with RSAWeb has been awful in ever aspect and from every department.

1) I had to phone and beg them numerous time to activate my account. Then the router got "lost" after I took two days off work to sit at home and wait for its promised arrival.

2) A week later our internet went down, RSAWeb blame Fiber Hoods ,Fiber Hoods blame Vumatel, Vumatel just keep going in circles and eventually you get to a stage where you can't contact anyone. Eventually after reporting the fault about 20 times toe RSAWeb and over a period of 3 days I demanded to speak to a manager at Fiber Hoods (cause I could no longer deal with the incompetence at RSAWeb) who had the problem resolved in 10 minutes - turns out it was RSAWeb's issue. Absolutely shocking service!!!!!!!! 3 days and plenty of passing the buck for a problem that took 10 minutes to resolve. Absolutely pathetic!!!

3) The accounts department admit to capturing my bank details incorrectly and now want to deduct R2,969.91 from my account in one month because they *****ed up. I suggested they divide it by 6 and deduct the amount over the next 6 months (which i think is reasonable). This is the response I get: "The below payment plan is the only plan we are able to accommodate you with. The outstanding balance will need to be settled over 3months including your monthly charge. Please be advised that if you are not willing to accept the proposed payment plan, we will unfortunately have to suspend your services and hand your account over to legal."

THIS MUST BE BY FAR THE WORST SERVICE PROVIDER IN THE WORLD. PLEASE SAVE YOURSELF THE TRIP TO THE SEVENTH LEVEL OF HELL AND NEVER EVER USE THIS ISP!!!
