Also saw something mentioned that you'll get the best out of the new cards with one of the 5x00 CPUs. Sneaky.
Might be true but we'll all have to wait for the independent benchmarks as per usual...

At $80 more than the 3070, it's priced perfectly because it's not only a faster card, it also has double the VRAM.
The price is fine for the performance. It's not a great value proposition though, just fairly priced. 6900xt looks like the highest value offering, ironically. Trades with 3090 for $300 cheaper.
I still feel like 3070 is my best bet, 1440p is fine for me.
Same here, the only downside is the 8Gb of memory...I really wish it had a bit more.
My 1070 has 8GB and struggles on games like COD Warzone sometimes. Either a badly optimised port from console, or the card is showing its age. And I'm only running the game on 1080p at the moment.8Gb is fine for 1440p, but definitely not for 4K AAA titles. At least not for long.
Event the 10Gb of the 3080 is a bit on the edge for 4K imo.
I really want a 3080 / 6800XT to really get a guaranteed 1440p144 in modern titles.
It is struggling because it's a relatively slow card in 2020 not because of the 8GB VRAM. The 2070 Super also only has 8GB VRAM and it handles COD Warzone at 1080p like a champ. 130fps+ average. My 1070 has 8GB and struggles on games like COD Warzone sometimes. What do you mean it struggles on the 1070? What FPS are you averaging? My 1070 has 8GB and struggles on games like COD Warzone sometimes. Either a badly optimised port from console, or the card is showing its age. And I'm only running the game on 1080p at the moment.
I cap it at 100 now (and it rarely drops below that). But it still randomly crashes. Logs indicate it's hitting the VRAM ceiling, even though I've dropped a few sittings to make sure the slider is below the threshold. What do you mean it struggles on the 1070? What FPS are you averaging?
Hmmm that's odd. I don't have those issues and also average 100. They are old cards though so possibly it's just getting tired.I cap it at 100 now (and it rarely drops below that). I hardly max out the VRAM on my V64. I have to have a look at it again. I think RDR2 sucks the most at 7.2GB, pending on my settings @ 1080pI cap it at 100 now (and it rarely drops below that). I doubt the GPUs are getting old unless they were modded. Nvidia however have a bad habit at neglecting older GPUs with driver support. As previously said, the V64 have only recently surpassed the 1080 on average thanks to driver support.Hmmm that's odd. I don't have those issues and also average 100. Could well be the case. It's had a good run, to be fair.Hmmm that's odd. I don't have those issues and also average 100. They are old cards though so possibly it's just getting tired.

My 1070 strix handles COD just fine @1080p average FPS of about 80

Which CPU and RAM are you using. 80 FPS seems low to be honest. My 1070 strix handles COD just fine @1080p average FPS of about 80
But is that due to the VRAM, or just the card showing it's age?
In some modern titles, the 1070 is a 1080p card these days. Even the 1080 is barely over 60fps at 1440p.
The 1070 and 3070 both have 8gb, so it shouldn't be a VRAM limitation.
However, the gap between the 1080Ti and the 1080 is bigger than I thought would be. So it could be VRAM related and the 3070 can overcome it due to more bandwidth?
I'm getting a bit out of my depth here wrt conclusions.
