Might be worth it to go to freshmeat.net/sourceforge.net, search for a project that looks promising, and then contribute to that project. Not only are you learning, but you're also doing something for the community.

But I'll need to get to learn my C# in anycase... I don't know C# and most of my VB stuff I hav forgotten coz I'm doing tech.

If you want something to get your programming brain going again but can't think on any ideas for a project or whatever, try doing some of these programming puzzels.
