S.A. Photography shops.

Nice work, Juice! Do you mind if I copy this, verbatim, into the first post?

With pleasure. I have a little too much time on my hands at the moment ;)

If someone with even MORE idle time on their hands feels like it, maybe they could pick a couple of fairly common products (bag, P&S, flash) and do a price comparison between all the sites :)

Who helped you

linky dont work

on the camera store issue. i ended up buying the 450 at BnH in Sandton City. Great bunch of ppl in the store who have lots of patience answering a truck load of newbie questions would recomend them to anyone wanting to do some shopping.

Who helped you at B&H? Looking at buying a Nikon D300s and they seem to have the best price in SA.:)

B&H in Sandton is cheaper than Orms and have stock

went thru most of the sites mentioned. The lens im saving for (Canon 70-200mm F4 L) seems to be cheapest @ Orms.

B&H in Sandton has it for R12,999.99

service

I have spent alot of money at Orms and find the service getting poorer and poorer everytime I visit there! I now try and buy elsewhere...

I placed an order for a 300mm lens as they didnt have stock, they were gonna let me know as soon as it came in - well I am still waiting and its been about a year now.

Landed up buying my 300mm from Kameraz over the phone, they shipped down to cape town in 2days and gave me the old price (was just after an initial price hike) - was very impressed. No one else had stock at the time.

Also VERY good service from outdoorphotoshop.co.za - fast processing and shipping to cape town.

SACamera, just down the road from me which is very handy but since they an online shop they dont really hold much stock which is a bit of a bummer. Some decent prices on certain items.

Internationally, never had a problem with B&H and Adorama.

I ordered a Nikkor 70-200 f2.8 VR from them about a year ago cause their price was a little better at the time. After numerous emails and phone calls I never received the lens due to an apparent container theft or some BS! I bought it from the manager Martin at B&H Photo in Sandton city and paid only R200 more but definitely worth it as the service you get from them is phenomenal. I even had a problem with the VR unit after returning from the Kruger and they swopped it immediately three weeks after I bought it. You want great service go there.

I phoned B&H today and spoke to Mark. They do the Nikon D300s at R17699.99. I then phoned Orms and the guy there told me B&H sells grey product... is this true?

b&h is overseas right? Therefore it would be seen as a grey product in SA. Grey basically means bypassing the local official distributors - not necessarily a bad thing.

AFAIK - any SLR bought overseas only has a warranty in that country.

my cam aint grey, its black

if its B&H in Sandton City...

We at B&H Photo also believe in supporting our local industries and economy. We are extremely proud to state that ALL of our hardware is purchased through local agents and are backed 100% by such agencies. We guarantee that none of our products are "grey market" imports, so you, our customer, can rest assured that you are supporting the growth of our beautiful country!

that's taken from their website. i think the dude from Orms just wants u to spend the money with them. :D or he was thinking about B&H in the US.

BH in Sandton at that price should be local, the grey imports are around 15.5K

This particular "B&H" is a local business who out of pure coincidence ;) has the same name as one of the most established names in the business.

Thank you

Yeh - forgot about 'that' one.

Hey guys thanks for that, didn't even think about checking their website. I did phone Photo Distributors who I believe are the Nikon agents and they guarantee that B&H in Sandton City is NOT a grey dealer at all. Apparently they are one of the top three dealers in the country so that is a relief. I most definitely will get my D300s there, they seem to know what they're talking about too.

Maybe the dude at Orms thought of B&H in the US, who do sell grey (along with regular - clearly indicated).

MartyFX, have you considered the D700 at all? From what I read availability is drying up and Nikon is widely expected to introduce an update (which would surely include video) at/before PMA. So there should be something new pretty soon. If nothing else, the D300S price should come down a bit.

Koffie, as I posted above, one of the sites in the list of shops is pushing a Trojan. Won't you please remove it from the list in the first post, or perhaps just add a warning?
