S.A. Photography shops.

Hi can anyone refer me to a few well respected places in Durbs where i can test out equipment. Most places offer advice but without getting my hands on it the producet its hard to make a decision.. I am looking at the Canon range with the Canon 550D and Canon HV20.

So - my brother ordered a lens from BHPhoto a few weeks back and chose UPS as the delivery, today he called and was told its already been delivered - checking on-line also shows as delivered. He's already transferred the customs + vat - if he claims from UPS - does he get the customs and vat back?

Did they deliver to the wrong address?

Did they deliver to the wrong address?

No idea - it says delivered in Johannesburg signed by someone who spelt his name wrong... so I'm assuming it was swiped - my brothers place is 450km north of Johannesburg.

Has anyone used these guys? They're R550 cheaper than SA Camera; and while the saving isn't worth buying from a unknown for, but would be a spare battery if they are reputable.

I looked up a few items on their site, and they are more expensive than the brick-and-mortar shop where I buy - CameraWorld in Bellville.

I don't know about you guys, but if a site doesn't enforce https when sensitive information is exchanged (like logging in), I move along rather quickly.

Apart from web stores I do prefer the odd visit to a real store, and many of the links do represent a geniune customer facing shop.
In Pretoria there are three places I will go to for business.
* ODP - Menlyn - because I live very close to it - and I rent a lot of equipment from them because I believe in owning the minimum gear.
* RadioLens - Hatfield - I have known Henry & Latsi since my teens, they are geniune in the way they do business
* Ludwig's - Arcadia - Same story, have been around for yonks

I like these shops because they are not out to sell you anything just to make a sale.

In CapeTown, I like Orms, but have been looking at the website of Studio22 (studio22.co.za) a lot. I have recently bought a body/lens combo from Orms, with the same convenience as buying in here in Pta.

Oh, I buy used cameras and lenses, he consumables are all new, and those I often get from a friend abroad.

If you have any buying experience from studio22.co.za, please post it. If I have enough people saying they're legit I'll add them to the original post.

Hi

I bought my Nikon D3100 from Studio22, was helped by Jeff, very professional, I have even been to their shop to collect.

I'd buy from them again.

I've ordered from B&H, UPS tells me the package is in Jhb now :)

My lenses have arrived :)

Had to pay in a further R382 for customs and handling, but all-in-all, very worth it. I now have two lenses for slightly higher than the price of one.

Sigma 70-300 (APO version) and a Canon nifty fifty.

Anyone maybe know where in Durban area, I can get decent Tripods (Smooth panning for Videography) at a decent price? Willing to spend +-R500.
