S.A. Photography shops.

Not too sure, but they have a nice selection of Canon lenses, give them a call and ask?
 
Thanks for this thread. I've been searching for SA camera stores all day and haven't found most of these.
 
Hey guys, just wanted to vouch for Cameraquip.

I ordered a lens and two CF cards from them on the 11th, just received my order. I think they import lenses and equipment, and all products are covered by a 3 year Mack warranty. The Mack warranty enables you to take your purchase to any product manufacturer approved service center in South Africa, and the cost is then paid by Mack.

Happy with the service. Gonna go play with my lens now :)

They're cheaper then Orms on some things...
E.g: Nikon AF-S 70-200mm f/2.8G IF-ED VRII - R18 481.50 @ CameraQuip & R23,495.00 @ Orms

Just a question about Orms Direct - I was told by a store I visited in Fourways, Johannesburg that they import equipment (Canon, Nikon) and that consequently local repair agents will not repair them. The chap who mentioned this was exceptionally arrogant (I heard afterwards that a lot of people have similar experiences in general and I doubt I will ever visit them again) and got me wondering how true this is.

Currently Orms have really good prices and I was wondering if anyone else might know more about this?

Nonsense, Orms has been servicing professional photographers for years and I have never heard a whisper about grey imports. Every dealer says this about the other just so that they can get your business. Orms does well cos their prices are great and have excellent customer service, online and in the shops. I don't buy anywhere else.
 
Thanks for info. I ended up going with B&H in Sandton City. I got a camera I liked with a few lenses. Now to start learning to use it to full potential.

i always get a high level of service from them and am a repeat customer.

also

catz digital in greenstone, staff there bend over backwards to help you. one guy dismantled a box kit so i could get my lens from them and he sold it to me for less because i didnt have a hood or a bag. definitly go back there again.

Hi McT, Edduck is correct - we only sell cameras and accessories supplied by official local agents and distributors. The proof is the local warranty cards supplied inside the boxes.

If you require repairs, we send the camera or lens to Nikon SA or CameraTek (Canon SA service agent).
 
I ordered a lens from Orms a day or so ago and I must say that their service is excellent. The price I got on the lens was way lower than any other store. Thanks Orms !!!

I've been trying to give them my money for the last week and a half, but they don't respond to email or phone messages. I was also flatout ignored at their stand at the Photo expo last weekend, with lots of people wearing the kakhi ODP shirts just chatting amongst themselves. Not impressed, and went elsewhere.

EDIT:
Murphy's Law - just after you complain, the complaint is nullified. ODP did not forget about me, and has made contact. Good follow up!

From previous experience, ODP's web based shop's service is tops.

From my experience www.orms.co.za and www.sacamera.co.za are the best for brand quality products at reasonable prices. www.camerastuff.co.za is great for those on a budget. I've searched and researched numerous sites looking for best prices and so far the ones I mentioned have been better than the others. Digital Experience was where I first bought my SLR, but they are still pricey. I saw some the suppliers mentioned above at the Photo and Film Expo recently and Outdoorphoto had some nice stuff but I found their monopods to be a bit expensive so I bought a Redged from Clik Elite SA www.cliksa.co.za at the expo. Their site doesn't seem to have prices available, that type of thing tends to put me off buying since I don't want the hassle of asking first. You know what they say, if you have to ask you probably can't afford it :p.
