S.A. Photography shops.

Received a mail from Incredible Gadgets, Bloemfontein with great prices on lenses. Anybody dealt with this ppl, what I really want to know are they for real. On google streetview it is a empty store, maybe they moved in after the streetview photos were taken

Im from Bloem and the streetview shots are quite old here. So its possible that they moved in after the shots were taken. Ive never dealt with them though, so cant help you. Why did they mail you? Where did they get your address? I can go check it out for you in the new year when I'm back in Bloem?

Sent from a Galaxy far, far away....

Pakka
Thanx, will appreciate if you can have a look. No clue how they got hold of my address. Hope the "far away" is on a exotic beach with a 22 year model.

If the prices are that good, then the chances are its a scam.

If the prices look too good to be true, they are too good to be true. Scam for sure, if they charge less than R8k for a D7000 (as discussed in the Gumtree link).

Scam: Incredible Gadgets - now "Pro Digital Centre"

And now the same guys send the same "50% OFF" email under a new name, "Pro Digital Centre" on the c/o Bok Street & Toronto Road, Welkom.

Sounds like they are "moving" regularly to stay ahead of the scam hunters (?)

The best way to sort these bastards out is to respond, get their banking details and then deposit a blank piece of paper at the ATM. They will get whacked bounce charges and therefore make less money.

In fact you could take a day's leave and do this continually....

Fantastic service from Outdoorphoto.

Last week Friday I decided to go through to the shop before I went back to work. I wanted to get a Colorchecker passport and also to meet Sean.

I live in Randburg so it's a serious trek to the shop even when the roads are relatively empty. Managed to turn into the Menlyn Mall by accident and then the ticket machine ate my money and didn't return the ticket. After half an hour, we exited the shopping centre, R8.00 lighter and with only memories of the parking lot to boot!

Anyway, browsed around the shop and then bought what I wanted and then the trouble started. Firstly the credit card payment would not go through and then the debit card give us a raspberry. We even tried different swipe machines but to no avail. 'Error connecting' was all it said. I couldn't do an EFT as I had left my cellphone at home so Daleen rose to the occasion and offered to courier the goods to me at no charge once I had transferred the money at my convenience.

This I did on Tuesday and this morning my parcel arrived at work and I'm now a happy camper to say the least. Big thumbs up to ODP for going out of their way despite the fact that the problem was not theirs to start with.

Big thank you though to the lovely Daleen (who has gorgeous hair according to my wife) for providing such fantastic service.

I'll be back.

Very strange that www.bidorbuy.co.za is not on that list, even if they are not only selling photography items.

Well, the point of this thread is to have a list of reputable dealers. I don't have any experience with bidorbuy, but I imagine you're taking a chance when you buy something? My experience with eBay is that even sellers with good ratings sometimes cause problems, weather it is out of incompetence or malice.

Also this thread is primarily for shops that specialize in photographic equipment...
Otherwise we may as well put Game, Makro, HiFi Corporation, etc on as well...

Ha ha ha, reputable?

bidorbuy is exactly that - every seller has a rating and most of the shops listed above are selling ON bidorbuy.

It's Gumtree you're thinking about - there you have to be triple careful.

I have never had a bad experience with BidorBuy, the others I stay away from.
