S5 mini keeps disconnecting

A friend has a S5 mini (less than 3 months old) that keeps disconnecting from the network. He is using Telkom Mobile and roams on MTN when he is at home.

At times it shows that it is connected and has signal, but he can't make or receive calls.

The only way to restore the connection is to reboot the phone.

Any suggestions?

Try forcing it onto the TM network? Try another sim or just send it back.

Sounds like a dud. Send it in for repair/replacement.
