S5 vs iPhone 6 plus

OK, so you understand the process of the OS being released to it being on your phone, right? And the differences between an Android OS upgrade and an iOS OS upgrade, right? Are you still surprised that it takes longer. I understand you want it us quickly as possible, but what would be a reasonable turn around time?

There's no reasonable turnaround time involved; the carriers just decide to turn off the spigot to your phone and that's that. If you get a Samsung or LG you just have to accept that you're throwing a dice for firmware updates and software features, and realize that next year's S6 version of Android/Touchwiz may or may not trickle down to your S5, and if they don't, well, it's off to XDA for you son. iOS users don't have that concern.

You seem to really dislike android, wonder why you have G2 and not a 5/5S at the moment.

I don't dislike Android at all, but I think it's fair to say that I do prefer iOS. It's you who loathes iPhone and perhaps that makes it seem as though I have some special hatred for Android. There's not such a thing as a perfect operating system and even after tweaking Android to death, it's still not perfect.

That's not customization, that's personalization. There's a difference.

Personalize is what you do with an unrooted device. Customize is when you start getting into Xposed modules and custom roms.

I loathe "iPhone" just for one reason, and its the same as the Blue Bulls. I don't dislike the phone/team at all, it's mostly the sheeple/supporters which grinds my gears. Did you watch the Apple keynote? So self absorbed. I was reading a live blog of it and the writer was really surprised at how the crowd was going wild at each announcement, compared to the Samsung keynote for the Note 4, where when Samsung wanted people to clap, it was all quiet (was actually very funny to watch). Anyway, while the live blogger was telling how the people are going wild at each announcement, I was thinking "I wonder if this is the long term effect of drinking the cool aid, or if they were served a portion before the keynote started" anyways, the keynote went on. Right at the end, the dude on stage says, "can all the apple employees please stand up". Holy schit, it was about half the people in the audience... The live blogger was actually pissed off that they had seats in front of him, as this keynote was meant for the press and not for the internal staff of apple. Just the way that Apple thinks they invent everything when they put it in their device, and they way they suck on their own .... while doing the presentation, is what really revs me up.

ok, i stand corrected. at first sight it just looked like a custom job on a launcher. It's still personalization (changing the look and feel), customization (changing how the phone/OS does certain things). I'm probably wrong on the definition, but I was just trying to keep the do different actions separate.

But you and I may be representative of 5% of phone users in that, and even then we have to wait for the XDA community to get their roms made. iOS users have no such concerns; everyone wakes up the same day with a notification that there's a new update to iOS8 available, they backup, and they let it run. Nexus users get the same treatment but again they're in the 5% of power users category, which is ironic since they have the most user friendly experience in all of Android. It's the same reason I wouldn't like to eat at Hell's Kitchen: I don't care why my food hasn't come to the table, I just want my damn food now.

You are having a bad experience with LG. My Samsung one is a little better (not a lot). Just remember that after Samsung/LG/Whatever there is also our favorite service provider bloating up our OS even more with crapware. But sure, they should at least support a flagship with the latest updates for 2 years. How long it takes to get it to the device is debatable.

They are terrible. I won't even try to defend them. I kinda liked Google I/O's keynote. Straight to the point, just presenting the facts. No airy fairy nonsense

All I'm saying is, nothing matters except the user experience; no excuses, nothing. What you get in your hand is what Android really is. Apple took a stance from the beginning against carrier customisations and they took heavy flak for it, but it paid off. Google haven't done anything pro-consumer at all, and you want to defend them.

The android operating system is open source, they can customize it, and include what they want. Also Samsung/LG/etc is also allowing the carrier customizations. OEM's license the Google product suite from Google and that's where Google make it's money. Something like the Fire Phone is Android based, but they used the completely opensource version of Android, which does not include Google suite. I don't know how that OS will fair in comparison with the Google suite versions out there. Apple on the other can do what they want, because it is proprietary to them. If Android was handled the same way as iOS, imagine the difference it could've made, but that's not Google's business strategy. Samsung is retrying their Tizen operating system again. Maybe if they can be in more control of it, they can eventually get it to the level that where Apple is in, but tbh I doubt it. Look how hard it is for Microsoft just to get some market share with the WP OS.

I like Apple products. I haven't seen the keynote. I have no intention of ever watching it. I have never watched a single Apple keynote and I have been a registered Apple dev for 3 years. I only downloaded the videos related to the parts which interest me. Swift, Metal.

Let me rephrase. We were talking about user experience and apple making more choices FOR the consumer than Google (pro consumer).

iOS
license - proprietary. built, controlled and owned by one single entity. can make whatever rules they want, because it is their own.

Android
license - open source. built by google, used by many OEM's as the OS of choice. Pay's Google a license fee for Google services.

Because the android operating system is open source, the OEM's can do whatever they want pretty much, like allow carrier bloatware, just like they bloat the OS themselves.

So my point is, because Apple is in control of what they build and only used by themselves, they can pretty much make the rules of what they allow and don't allow into their OS. Not the same for Android, but because you have a bigger community behind android and a superpower like Google behind the OS, it is growing much faster than what Apple is, that's why it has overtaken Apple on the feature front, but because of the openness of open source, it is much harder to get the same level of experience than what apple can give.
