SA iPod prices see reduction

The UK price for the 160gb Classic is still around R600 cheaper. It's a pity no other mp3 player manufacturers create players with that amount of storage.

They have basically just brought their prices in line with those of www.digicape.co.za
Go have a look. However, they still have the small fact that their service is beyond bad. Never EVER buy anything from Core.

Google "Core waterfront" and you will see why they have had to drop their prices. A lot of negative comments with regards to their service..

Slap on the shipping, bru. And not the "I'll wait 6 weeks for it" shipping. The one that equates to driving to the iShop and picking up your new iPod today... That'll be a much more fair comparison.

Well it seems it's only select items are available for shipping, I bought a Kindle last month and assumed the channels had opened again. Pity :( Irrespective it's highlights my main issue with local distributors, they monopolise the market and then put you over a barrel and all we can do is accept it.

Microsoft is also making their Zune in that range (120GB) , and i got the Zune imported for cheaper than the iPod Classic (120GB) locally.

Unfortunately MS have not upgraded the Zune 120GB yet, instead opting to focus on the 32/64GB Zune HDs . Maybe later...

This is awesome news :) at least core are not ripping us off as much as they were!

CORE at the reason we have bad apple pricing in sa :(

Haha, nice to see a drop at least but I dont see how a 'positive dollar shipment' alone leads to R1000+ reductions....

Plus I though we dont get stock from USA so whats the dollar got to do with it in the first place?

Precisely. Moreover if they do engage in 'forward cover' as claimed, then they'd pay the higher locked-in dollar price even if the dollar weakened. Bunch of liars.

I think they are dropping the prices in preparation for the iPad. How can an iPod cost more than the iPad? iPad, I reckon, likely to be around R5000 - R7000.

Nice price drops on the Touch series, yet their biggest sellers (Nano) only gets R 300 - R 500 cuts.

Are they going to discontinue the Nano range ? Who would pay R1699 for the 8G Nano when you can get the 8G Touch for for R 300 bucks more.

No they are not going to discontinue the nano 8Gb anytime sooner. The thing is, music wise, the nano makes more sense since its unlikely that you will ever need music files in excess of 400 on the go. The touch and nano are similarly priced, I don't know why. On the 28th of February in duty free section at the OR Tambo airport I saw an 8 Gig Touch priced at 1899 and nano at R1799. I had to restrain myself from the temptation of making a purchase. Does any1 know if its possible to go back to the duty free section when arriving back at the airport without transitting to another country as I would like to go back and make an unnecessary gadget purchase
