Hi all:)

We have really talented performers here in SA and they deserve our support:). That's what this thread is for - share you favourite SA songs with us; post a linky to where the song(s) can be purchased; share your interesting / funny story with us about when you first took an interest in a particular artists much.

I'll kick it off with this:

I saw Kurt Darren's "Standing on the Edge" on SABC 2 today [5th April] @ 7.25pm after Smallville. I thought it was absolutely brilliant:). I just bought it from here:).

i never even considered listening to his music, until my "rooinek" 3 yo daughter started dancing to one of his songs on tv a couple of months ago. she was going all out: jumping, head-banging, twirling around, clapping, you name it, and i realized: oh my gosh, what a nice beat, this is so catchy!

:D:D:D

I also bought that song just after it came out, even if I don't like the rest of his music.

I must say this was the first and only time I've ever spent money of a South African artist.

This is the only SA piece in my collection and only 1 of 2 or 3 that I've purchased:o.

no way, guys! there are so many good SA artists. i need to get some Bok van Blerk for my collection.

I really enjoy much of SA music. Arno Castens/Nude Girls, JustGinger, Carver, Watershed, freshly ground, and a few others.

Headsup to SA music.

Are you kidding me?
JustGinger
Old!
Sigh.
Watershed
2/3 good songs
freshly ground
2 good songs
and a few others.
There are others?!?!?

Bottomline is that none of these you mentioned are AFRIKAANS singers ... which supports my argument.

... meh? are you saying that it has to be in afrikaans to be SA music? I'm confused.

Well, this is a new thread that I'm sure is a spin-off from my thread (or at least a previous post of mine) about AFRIKAANS singers.

well... bands like buite-egtelike produk, foto na dans, straatlig kinders...?
those are only the more well known ones, im not too clued up on the local scene

I used to dig Battery 9 ... unfortunately that is all :o

I remember them too. They where just a cacophony of sounds conjoured up by a bunch of guys that had no musical talent whatsoever and who were solely relying on the lack of discrimination of young people to follow whatever source of auditive vibrations gave them the most stimulation.

And this is pretty much what I think of trance parties also.
