Let's rather word it like this since we are talking politics, Zuma and Mashatile subscribe to the same political ideology.

No Zuma and Cyril was already elected at the national conference and the recalls only happened in the last few months of the election cycle.

But Mashatile has never been part of the Zuma faction, no idea what gives rietrot the idea, Mashatile is one of the NEC leaders who was very decisive that Zuma must get out of Mahlamba Ndlopfu when Cyril and the others were trying to be diplomatic with the Nkandla Thief.

Mashatile was part of the Gauteng leadership collective that was fully behind Cyril, perhaps the thing that confuses people is that no one has foreseen the outcome of him emerging as a deputy President because he wasn't on Cyril's slate for that position, the fact that he did doesn't automatically turn him into an Ace Magashule or some other Zuptoid.

No it was obvious that he was going to be deputy to keep the RET faction happy. The Zuma faction

I get your point that Zuma and Mashatile are not friends.

Now get mine. They are in the same WhatsApp group. They believe the same things. They are equally corrupt, stupid and RET.

Mashatile still wants to be were Zuma was and build his own Nkandla.
