SA Politics Thread Part 10 : The GNU Has Crashed

Would be funny if it wasn't so tragic. All the poor provinces are like that. They support the ANC with a religious fervor

Not sure how many people have been to Lichtenburg over the past few years. You can complain all you want about service delivery but that city is on another level, no business can operate their as the roads don't exist, load shedding is usually double what it would normally be and electricity cables are stolen every few weeks so the power is often off for weeks. How anyone who has lived their for the past 10 years can still vote for the ruiling party is beyond me.

And that’s why democracy doesn’t work in Africa.
Looking at the US recently, or the UK, maybe doesn't work anywhere really.
Even the ancient Greek democracy was limited to land owners.

Those countries still function. How do you think trump won? Was is something the democrats did or not?

The problem with our political setup is simple, playing it safe with your vote is still a much better option than voting for any of the small parties, because if you don't you end up with coalitions that made places like Joburg and Tshwane become what they are now, and a simple fact is that while the ANC majority in those places was not perfect, the places deteriorated to what they are now as soon as voters started looking for options, that resulted into the coalition chaos.

In an ideal situation people would be logical enough to understand it's a local election, forget about their parties, look at the previous election outcome and vote for one of the top 5 parties in their area that closely align with the values of their party. In that manner we would not have a party like ATM or UDM in a Joburg or Pretoria metro, it will be in Eastern Cape with enough seats to make a difference.

Nope, they are remaining (for now) because they genuinely believe in improving SA. Everyone with a brain knows that a GNU without a market friendly party like the DA will lead to worse social and economic outcomes. We can already see this in the weakening of the Rand and the like - part of it is Trump tariffs, but also part of it is uncertainty about the DA's role going forward.
That sentiment doesn't make sense. The DA have no say in economic policy. Why does business and the market think it makes a difference that they're just there watching the ANC steer toward a cliff?

You are just proving my point though, everyone has their reasons for doing what they are doing, the only difference is that the DA has better PR than a party like UDM or PAC, that however doesn't make the DA less hypocrites than any other party that supported the budget.

The DA would have supported the budget and used their fancy PR to justify it.

I think Joburg and Tshwane can be saved it'll just take very long. Years of ANC rule have a culture of a certain entitlement among the work force who clearly prefer the ANC's lackadaisical approach to work. The places are captured with tenderpreuners agitating against anyone but the ANC because their bread is being threatened if there's real accountability

Emfuleni is totally dysfunctional due to decades of ANC mismanagement. So are over 75% of municipalities with decades of ANC majority. Heck in my area nearly every government vacancy goes through councillors including nurses. You either buy or sleep with someone in most cases to be employed. The clinical head of the hospital prances about in ANC regalia but at least he's a doctor.

The markets believe that the DA can constrain the ANC's worse impulses and also provide political cover for reform programmes like Operation Vulindlela run out of the President's office. Also I agree it would be much better if there was a DA head for one of the economic ministries.

Lol. The reason people started looking around because sole ANC control was ruining those cities. You are just making up stuff now by blaming coalition arrangements. How convenient.

Democracy only works when your team wins. Otherwise it's schit
if you say so, I'm sure those who're still suffering are so glad that their democracy is working.

Trump won because democrats were only focused on making everything about hamas or trans. He won democratically and democracy is working fine in US.

For now, they are functioning for now.

And they will still be functioning in the next one hundred years. Can you okes stop being drama kweens about anything and everything that happens in the world. It's not about to end every 5 minutes

I'm sure they are. Which is why they will do cheer, queue, and vote the next election cycle instead of erecting guillotines
Now you're seeing why it's not the perfect government, but probably perfect for now. Also imagine if those were actually educated better and could see what real freedom was, not what they believe their lovely ANC gives them.
Then again we've got some on here with "education" who believe the ANC.
