Welp, at the very least it seems there's bipartisan (not sure what else to say, tripartisan, quadruplepartisan...?) agreement that Nkabane must **** off. And of course, true to form, according to Netwerk24...

Those who reject her budget reject transformation in South Africa’s higher education sector.

“When you are against transformation, it irritates you when you see a young woman leading such a big ministry. It irritates you even more when that woman is a black woman,” says Dr. Nobuhle Nkabane, Minister of Higher Education and Training.

“It is unfortunate that some of the honourable members have indicated that they will not support the budget. They are not rejecting Nobuhle Nkabane’s budget. This is not my budget. This is the budget of the people of South Africa.”

I'm working off memory, but I read somewhere that they then have to use 45% of the previous year's budget for a limited number of months?

That's why the words "transformation" and "redress" have become so toxic.

I don't think there's much opposition amongst average South Africans against the principle. But they have been used so many times as a decoy for total corruption, greed, accountability regarding maladministration, and to justify plain and simple racial discrimination, that people tend to recoil or roll their eyes at these terms.

Are you getting a bit nervous that Cyril's decision might be subject to judicial review? Reminds me of the time they extended covid lockdown regulations which were only banished once it was clear they'd lose in court in June 2022. The ANC does plenty of illegal stuff all the time.

The reason Cyril takes longer to make decisions is because all of his decisions are carefully considered, that's why Whitfield was also not fired on the spot but Cyril took time to apply his mind before firing him.

But of course, I do welcome the DA going to court to challenge his decision, they will be left with egg all over their face.
