And that's where you don't make sense, the Chinese are not the best selling brand that doesn't build cars here, after Toyota and VW, the third best selling brand is Suzuki, and no they are not part of Toyota as you seem to believe, all the cars Suzuki sells here are built in India, including the Toyota branded ones.

But for some odd reason, you don't have a problem with Suzuki capturing that chunk of the market whilst not building any cars here, you only have a problem with the Chinese?

Hyundai and Kia don't build any passenger cars here, they sell more cars than the Chinese but they aren't a problem?

If we have a problem with imported cars we must first start there, why were we so happy will all those manufacturers dumping their overpriced mediocrity here all along but we lose our s*** when the Chinese does the same thing? It shows that there is no principle in it, we want to pick the country we don't like for criticism while giving the others a free pass.

They downgraded the spec to do it
They didnt drop the price on the existing spec

Yes. But Suzuki itself is owned by the Toyota Group.

Toyota/Suzuki could always decide to build them here or construct new factories, given their existing footprint.

E.g. the Toyota Vitz and Suzuki Celerio are exactly the same, just with different badges and names.

My problem is with the manufacturers. If the local manufacturers close, it will moer our economy. Increasing unemployment. Making things worse (not that a cadre like you would really care, tbh)

That's why I was glad about the Chinese announcing they'll set up factories here, because if the current local manufacturers crash and burn, there'll be at least some buffer for the fallout...

Something they could not do before, I honestly don't care how they do it, as long as they do it. Now lovers of VW has more cheaper options and can buy more of the locally manufactured stuff, win win.

But it would never have happened without someone breathing down their neck, all hail Xi Xingping.

Then we need to become more competitive and more business friendly to create jobs. It's not just automotive jobs that are being lost, it's across sectors, and that's purely because of policy...

Honestly, I don't get the hate towards Chinese products. I wonder if anyone bothers to check manufacturer label in home appliances in their own homes.

No, Suzuki is not owned by Toyota. While there is a partnership and cross-ownership between the two companies, they remain independent entities. Toyota owns a small percentage of Suzuki (4.94%), and Suzuki owns a small percentage of Toyota (0.2%), but this doesn't grant either company controlling ownership.

Given the fact that we're a relatively rapidly urbanising population its about the most efficient use of scarce resources in my opinion.

Gayton can spend the resources in the cities, but if he's not making significant inroads then its money wasted, but for the DA the resources to campaign in the rural areas (at least for now) are probably not ever efficient on a per vote/per economic unit basis.
