His excuse in bold.

When police descended on the Sandton home of alleged DJ Sumbody murder mastermind Katiso “KT” Molefe, they found Patriotic Alliance deputy president Kenny Kunene waiting for a meeting.

News24 can reveal that the City of Johannesburg Transport MMC was questioned by police about his presence at Molefe’s home, while the latter is accused of orchestrating the murder of a whistleblower, and now musician Oupa John Sefoka.

Molefe, alongside alleged triggermen Musa Kekana, Tlego Floyd Mabusela and former detective Michael Pule Tau, were arrested on Monday.

Molefe had been released on bail, while the other members of his coterie had been held without bail after they were linked to a spate of murders.

Kunene, responding to questions, was ardent that he had no relationship with Molefe, nor were the pair friends.

The explanation for his visit was innocent, he held.

“I was accompanying a young journalist, who is among a group of young people I am in the process of handing my online news platform, Africa News Global, over to. Since I became a public office bearer, I have not had time to do any of my former publishing work on this news site and felt it would help aspiring journalists to get a start in life if they take it over and run it, without my involvement,” he explained.

“To get traction and revenue for the site again, they needed to find some good exclusive stories, which the site used to be known for. Through a contact of mine, Jabu, we were able to arrange an interview with Mr Katiso Molefe at his home. It must be stressed that he was not a fugitive at the time, and we were seeking him out for news value alone,” he added.

Kunene said that the arresting officers demanded to know why he was there, and he claimed his narrative was accepted.

“I showed them how the address had been sent to me on my phone, along with why we were there, which the police accepted.

“They also wanted to know if I had the phone number of Mr Molefe, and I told them I did not. I gave them my phone, telling them to punch in his number to confirm that I did not have it. They accepted this,” he added.

He was resolute that it was “not some kind of clandestine meeting”.

“The fact that I needed to be sent the address is proof that I’d never been there before.”

According to the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission database, Kunene remains the lone director of African News Global.

Kunene was appointed as a public officer bearer in February 2023.

Molefe is central to claims made by KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi that SAPS top brass – alongside Police Minister Senzo Mchunu – was infiltrated and captured by drug cartels and underworld actors.

Mkhwanazi held that the political killings task team was collateral damage, and that its “orchestrated demise” was set in motion by their pursuit of Molefe, as well as tender don Vusimusi “Cat” Matlala.

The scandal has seen Mchunu put on special leave while a judicial commission of inquiry, a parliamentary investigation, and another advanced by the Public Protector gather momentum.

Sefoka was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting in Woodmead on 20 November 2022.

His blue Volkswagen GTI was riddled by automatic gunfire.

The musician and nightclub owner, as well as his driver and bodyguard, were declared dead at the scene.

The motive for the attack remains unclear.

Honestly, I don't get the hate towards Chinese products. I wonder if anyone bothers to check manufacturer label in home appliances in their own homes.

Die Rooi Gevaar. Many were brought up on it
