SA Politics Thread Part 11: The GNU Normal

By what your cadre with PR posted.

Also, you're the last person to give lectures about repeating things.

WE WILL NOT BE BULLIED
You do realise what he posted does not support what you claim? It's okay to be wrong, it happens to everyone, you don't have to make yourself a fool out of embarrassment.

It's quite funny to see how firmly the DA has the ANC by the balls. Who feels like digging through the garbage posts telling us that the DA's threats were laughable?

The ANC is unable to fire the DA from the GNU, so they now basically act as the official opposition while being in government. And they are easily 1000x better at their portfolios than the other parties and this is splashed over the news everyday. The only thing that could have saved the ANC was the Statement of Intent which would have neutered the DA and kept them quiet. But ANC chose violence. Electoral heaven

I mean that is literally a criminally low bar.

At least some on X are waking up to the PA being an ANC-adjacent party given the replies to that tweet. His party is not offering anything different to the ANC - once that is realised by the masses, his party's popularity will decrease.
Why would that realization make them stop supporting Gayton? They don't support him out of some sort of principle.

By all accounts the DA portfolios are being run in a world class manner. Hardly surprising as the bar of expectation for the DA is really high. The bar of expectation for the ANC is to please not steal everything that is not firmly bolted into the bedrock. Unfortunately they are unable to meet these expectations

I said many moons ago, the DA will destroy the ANC from within, it's happening.

The ANC is destroying the ANC from within, no need for DA to do anything.

Problem is the ANC is taking everyone including the economy down with them. Will be relief when they finally dont have any power to make decisions.

Proof of pudding is in the eating. I think Schreiber is the only one really using the executive power of the ministry to try and fix things. Steenhuisen maybe in a 2nd place.

Malatsi might as well be an ANC minister.

DA in 2023:
“It makes no sense whatsoever for the ANC government to persist with full ownership of the Post Office while it has consistently proven incapable of being profitable to fulfil its basic mandate of delivering sustainable and reliable postal services to the public.”

Given the historic unprofitability, inefficiency, and ongoing decay of the Post Office, no amount of nostalgic state control nor recycled bureaucratic turnaround strategy will transform the entity into a modern, functional and reliable postal service that will regain the public’s trust as its postal services of choice, it said.

The DA said will continue to leverage every parliamentary recourse to advocate for the partial sale of the Post Office to the private sector to save millions of rands on bailouts and return the entity to its previous efficiency.

DA in 2025, when they have control over the ministry:

"The South African Post Office is allocated R8 billion over the MTEF to fulfil its universal service obligations, improve service delivery. This funding will support SAPO’s efforts to diversify revenue, rebuild trust, and stabilise operations through strategic partnerships and good governance". Malatsi said.

Last month, SAPO also received a R381 million wage subsidy from the government, aimed at covering employee salaries for the next six months as part of the ongoing business rescue process.

The Post office is in very clear violation of the law in how it operates:
The postal company and any other holder of a licence must comply with the conditions specified in the licence in question relating to the provision of postal services in areas and to communities which are not served or adequately served by postal services, with a view to achieving universal postal service.
The services for the licence are:
applicant.

(til A person may not be licensed to provide a courier service in terms of this

subsection unless that person undertakes- 5

(i) to receive, collect and deliver items contemplated in item I(a) of Schedule 1;

(ii) to track and trace the whereabouts of any item received or collected for

delivery by such person’s business undertaking;

(iii) to deliver items within a definite time, in the case of deliveries across

international borders; 10

(iv) to deliver items within the Republic on the date of receipt thereof or at the

latest by l3:OO on the next working day; or

(v) to clear items through customs, where applicable.
The post office does not do this to any meaningful degree of service. His dept should be looking at gearing up every other courier to take over from the post office because it simply doesn't do its job. He only announced that he is reviewing it this year.

Wheras that should have been a task he set his dept on day 1.

Well, he runs on the "vote for Coloured people because they will better represent your interests" (ANC = blacks, DA = whites in his mind)) slogan which is fine as an insurgent/populist party the first time it is done, but then what happens when these people are elected and then just ally with the ANC?

True but that's hardly a new problem, they have been doing that for decades now.

But your party the DA is in alliance with the ANC, if DA supporters are not leaving en masse why would the PA supporters do?

The DA is not acting as a rubber stamp for the ANC (no, I'm not citing those instances - you very much know what those are). The PA seems to be far more amenable to the ANC...is that PA voters want? I don't think so.

Just like you are able to justify being in an alliance with the ANC, the PA supporters can also do the same thing just fine.

There is no sign that the PA growth has slowed down after the GNU as you have seen how they have been thrashing the DA in by elections, yes, rural or not rural it doesn't matter. In fact just after they voted for a VAT increase, they went on to take a ward from the DA in Joburg after you all swore the voters are going to punish those who voted for a VAT increase.

I think you just need to admit they are a formidable opponent and deserve to be respected instead of being dismissed.
