You see? With not a single car built in SA, and they have been enjoying the privilege for decades, no one has a problem with it, we only have eyes for the Chinese.

I couldn't care less if a car was built in SA, hell with our work ethic and standards I might just prefer it NOT to be built here

one thing that is an undeniable fact: APDP propping up our local car manufacturing industry is the main reason we pay more than other countries for the same cars

it's actually disgusting that a foreign brand can import cars, pay full customs duties and STILL be cheaper than locally built equivalent models, it just goes to show how cnuts like VW have been milking us dry for years, all those savings they make in not paying customs duties go straight to their pockets instead of yielding any sort of price relief for their customers

The goal posts have shifted. @TheChamp knows the ANC is screwed. So now the focus is on the minnow parties who he is hoping will grow from 100 votes to 1000 votes and tell us that the DA can never match 1000% growth. Kind of wild that this gent has started supporting other parties because his one is so bad.

Allow me to rephrase my question. Which Chinese cars are bought for South African Government Ministers to use as their official transport?

I dont care what is sold here. If it is not built here to be sold here there is no benefit for the country from a foreign earnings perspective
If it is imported and then sold here it is just the wrong side of foreign exchange flow
The defecit has implications on the USD/EUR/Yen rates. The bigger the deficit the quicker those rates increase.
Sure chinese cars are cheaper as they are subsidised in manufacture. It does nothing for SA other than a few menial jobs. There arent even proper support chains in place in the country. One reason I wouldnt buy one , no matter their price point.

Talking to a butcher on the weekend SA is going to have to start importing beef due to teh poorly managed foot and mouth that hit Karren and now other areas. According to him mutton is now getting cheaper than beef. Go figure , SA will have to import beef of all things lol

Agoa is going to hurt. That will impact prices on some of the food basket relied on by the poor.

Look at the list of cars exported in the links someone else provided.
Those are the ones I am most interested in
ATM on Merc is heavily impacted because of how much they export to the USA. They could go the same way as BMW in Mexico where apparantly manufacturing has slowed down substantialy and large numbers of retrenchments are taking place.
