Indeed.
A cloud been hanging over MTN for a long time already over many, many other things over many years now.
To single out the US attention with a narrative now is just intellectual dishonesty at this point.

If everyone around you is involved in corruption, you have power over them to keep them in line. It also prevents anyone from getting funny ideas about being a hero and pointing fingers.
The other bonus is that when the heat builds up too much, you simply lop off some of the low hanging fruit and dangle them in front of the media and public as proof you are finally dealing with corruption.
You will never read "toeing the party line" quite the same again will you?
