JOHANNESBURG - To address its dwindling support among minority races in the country, the African National Congress (ANC) said it needs to ensure its leadership and members reflect the diversity of the country.

The party has released its discussion pages ahead of its national general council this December.

The council is a mid-term review forum of the ANC’s challenges and progress since its last elective conference.

ALSO READ: ANC seeking creative ways to regain black middle class vote

In its discussion papers, the ANC acknowledges it never enjoyed popular support among white people.

However, it has noted a significant decline in the number of its branches among Indian and coloured communities.

The party said many working-class coloured people feel alienated from the democratic project and wrongly believe their limited privileges under apartheid have been replaced by marginalisation.

In the Indian community, the ANC said that while they are performing better economically, they feel politically sidelined.

The ANC said it needed to proactively recruit capable leaders from minority communities to show the organisation belongs to all.

Lol, DA has massive Indian support (doesn't look like it will change soon) and while the PA has pierced the DA armour with coloureds, this is mostly in rural areas (where very few people live). DA remain strong with urban coloureds. When you break with voting for the ANC, it is a very liberating experience.

Gareth shows how Mmusi and the ASA crew set back the DA by about 2 election cycles in JHB with their strategic blundering and political ineptitude. At least now they can screw around with their own money and political parties. Hopefully Zille can put the party back on its 2016 trajectory - going to be a massive task

But the 2016 trajectory was abandoned when the DA lost one too many right wingers to the Freedom Front who were threatened by seeing too many black people in the leadership.

Zille herself is the one who came back from retirement to "rescue" the party from the 2016 trajectory to embrace the new 20% destiny.

You would think @TheChamp was a hardcore DA voter back in 2016 given his massive approval of them. Maybe he is just another ASA dissident behind the ANC bravado. Mashaba will gladly welcome you!
