Four by-elections today. The numbers with the (*) to indicate the 2024
provincial ballot numbers, while the ones in brackets (where relevant) are the 2021 municipal results. We begin in Kou-Kamma, a rural municipality in the EC. Although the results suggest a tough three-way battle, I've seen enough of these types of by-elections to suggest that it will really a two-horse battle between the ANC and the PA, given this is the perfect ward for the PA: rural + coloured population.
The ANC should have no problem holding onto their ward in the Free State and Limpopo. In Gauteng, the MK made some inroads into the ANC vote share in ward 130, but still someway off the ANC number. It will be interesting to see whether they can replicate or even improve their result from the 2024 election in a by-election atmosphere.
