I've used the Gautrain multiple times for business purposes when I have to be up in Gauteng. I truly think that it is world-class - I really can't complain, although I do feel the prices are too high for the average South African (fortunately for me they were regarded as business expenses). It certainly beats sitting in the traffic between JHB and PTA.
 

Interesting moves.
Minister of Communication and Digital Technologies Solly Malatsi has announced the appointment of BMIT Knowledge Group to develop the funding model for the SA Broadcasting Corporation (SABC).

In a statement on X on Friday, Malatsi said that the appointment “fulfilled the commitment” he made to prioritise a funding model for the public broadcaster.

“This represents a major step in charting sustainable solutions to secure the SABC’s long-term financial sustainability, safeguarding its ability to fulfil its mandate for millions of South Africans,” he said, adding that the firm had a “proven track record of economic modelling, broadcasting market analysis, and regulatory policy support.”

News24 previously reported that the minister had told Parliament’s Committee on Communication and Digital Technologies that a firm would be appointed to develop the model, following the controversial withdrawal of the SABC Bill in November last year.


According to the bill, a funding model would have needed to be developed by the Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies and the Minister of Finance, three years after it is promulgated.

The market research and consulting firm will now have three months to finalise the funding model before a new iteration of the SABC Bill is sent to both Cabinet and Parliament for approval.

I find this comical.
Meanwhile, chairperson of Parliament’s Committee on Communication and Digital Technologies Khusela Diko labelled Malatsi’s plan to appoint a firm to develop a funding model as “a recipe for disaster”.

Speaking to journalists at a media briefing earlier this week, Diko issued a warning that the state broadcaster did not have three months to spare for a funding model to be developed, and would not survive past December.

She also said that the previous SABC bill had not been properly withdrawn, and would still be considered by Parliament going forward

But her much vaunted bill allows for three years... Cadre logic back at it again.

Which cars since most are leased, also most are supposed to be on a replacement cycle which would mean they're under manufacturer warranty so are these youth doing the work according to rmi spec?

The idea is good without a doubt, but without any of the specifics it's just the standard panty waffle that doesn't amount to anything concrete
