We have two by-elections today - one rather exciting one where the DA will be challenged by the MK in a very marginal ward in eThekwini. A reminder: back in April, the MK won their first metro ward off the DA. The gap between the two parties on the provincial ballot in that ward in 2024 was 9 percentage points - here it is only four percentage points, so it will essentially be game of turnout - who is best at turning out their supporters? Given that the DA has historically struggled to turn out their supporters in by-elections, I will give the edge to MK but I hope to be surprised.

In the other by-election, ANC is seeking to hold a safe seat in their strongest province - Limpopo.

Yes, because that's how the minority got wealthy during apartheid in South Africa. There were no state polices and SOEs giving them handouts.

Sit down man. 🤣

This is also how the majority have gotten wealthy, by benefiting from race legislation at the expense of the previously advantaged minority.

Can't argue with the state policies regarding white vs black labor...utterly abhorrent policies for sure. There we agree.

Those in charge of the SOE's however, made sure that they were working and took pride in their office. Corruption is endemic to every country and era across the world but the magnitude in our government at the moment is staggering!

I'm still waiting for him to list the handouts though, cos I feel hard done by that I never got what was owed to me.

Yeah DA members are more likely to be productive members with jobs and responsibilities. By elections are not a holiday and not all companies give time off
Elections have holidays for a reason , so that everyone can vote

Yeah I hear you - we can't argue with how terrible the racial legislation was regarding job availability for black vs white during apartheid but this BS that everything was just handed on a silver platter is ridiculous.

Me neither. Wasnt really productively active during apartheid. I only started working and becoming independant after 1994
Never had any handouts and I dont recall my parents being given land or money by the governement. They had to work for it and pay taxes and their sons had to be cannon fodder

The DA will probably retain that ward as the ANC will be regaining some of its support back from the MK as it has been the trend in all by elections since the 2024 elections, the MK has struggled to stamp its authority by improving their form from 2024, it's either they remain stagnant or drop.

Which is to some extent now reversed by current BEE legislation
My issue with the current BEE legislation is that it doesn't have any specified sunset clauses, no performance and outcome based clauses and currently enriches the politically connected and tenderpreneurs. If one had introduced a LSM based system and connected it with significant tax breaks to use "white-wealth" to create "black-wealth", we would have already seen a significant change in SA's PDI situation.

I tend to agree with the reversal to a large degree.

The sunset clause is when the inequality between the minority and the black majority is gone. Until then, BEE stays. 🙂

Delusions so early while we await General Mkhwanazi.

What wealth and privilege? 🤣
