SA Post Office Strike

Three weeks ago two of the largest inland mail hubs, TSWANE HUB and WITPOS HUB suffered two weeks of unprotected industrial action. Mail in the Gauteng area is delayed by +/- 4 weeks.

Last Friday the CAPE MAIL HUB of the Post Office went of strike as well and remains on strike.

All mail to and from the W/Cape is now frozen at either the HUB (incoming) or local post offices (outgoing).

This appears to be a bi-annual event.

Bloody ****er post office strikers nearly cost me. Forgot that my old 4x4 license expires in August. Happened to use the car today and spotted it...

Sucks. I've changed the orders for the things I ordered (within SA) to a courier service. A damn courier for a little parcel. But I cba to sit and wait for something that's never gonna arrive. Screw those clowns and their constant shutting down of services for pay they don't deserve.

Just seems like everyone is bloody striking all the time.. miners, petrol joggies, post office.. who's next?

South Africans are spoiled. Expect the country to become more and more like Zim. There's no way that foreigners will want to invest. There's no way productive people who can leave can expect a meaningful life for their children either with the high crime, low productivity and general attitude of expectation from a large number of people.

Not entirely sure how your astounding logic comes to that conclusion, but no i don't. Im just frustrated beyond anything because all my packages from overseas have gone missing because of these morons. Also due to the fact that a van outside Saxonwold was burnt to ****, which most likely had my packages, the fact these savages are pissing on peoples parcels as well.

oh *****. when did this happen? My parcel still says its stuck in symridge or another, but that status could not be true as the tracking system is not working :( and another one at JHB INT MAIL CENTRE (HUB), so I hope its still there. Will phone them tomorrow

edit, never mind. Saw your previous post :(

How can this be? Not a single contingency plan in place. Services which have been paid for, have simply come to a standstill and customers simply have to suck it up? The post office is acting like they are an ISP.

Ordered something internationally for SO's birthday beginning August. Seller confirmed it reached SA on 12 September.

Still waiting. I emailed that link posted earlier asking where the parcel was.

Is there anything else that can be done?

No, you will have to just wait it out. Some time in the distant future when this parcel is long forgotten it may suddenly appear, but for now, best you go get your SO something else.

Can you complain to the seller? For example, if you ordered something from a local online retailer and they shipped the package via post office, do you have any leverage on the retailer? asking for a duplicate item to be sent via courier (with the client paying for the courier offcourse)? Im just asking because this is an extremely ****ty situation and I feel it could have been avoided if the online retailer just informed me that only courier options are available.

Btw, I did not select Post office option. I assumed the more expensive option will be the courier option. Boy was I wrong when I received a post office tracking number :( Never will I willingly ship ANYTHING through that dung heap that is the Post Office!

At least my stuff is moving again, slooowly.
