SA Post Office Strike

Do they have x-ray scanners or are the contents listed?

Contents are listed for SARS. This benefits thieves greatly. It's as if SARS actually wants to facilitate theft.

It's the same with the declining Rand because of the piss poor job this government is doing. The money deteriorates. They charge more VAT. They win either way. It's unjust.

So in short we are not allowed to have anything nice otherwise some one will steal it.
Its a bunch of criminals that works for our Post office.

True. Because SAPO is so unreliable it's not necessary in some cases to pay even more for FedEx/UPS/TNT. We get scr-ewd either way.

But that's the problem of living in a developing nation where postal amenities are not up to standard and courier is super expensive.

LOL this is CDJapan :)

Your order has just entered the shipping process.

However, the shipping charge needed to be updated according to the
actual order weight that has just become available.

Before continuing with the shipping process, we need to receive your
approval for the new shipping charge. New shipping charge: 10100 yen

Once we receive your approval, we'll immediately enter your order in
the shipping process.

If you do not approve the new shipping charge, we'll cancel your order.

In case we don't receive your response within 1 week, we'll enter it
in the shipping process.
To quicken the processing, or if you prefer
to have the order cancelled, please respond before then.

At first glance it looks self contradictory until you realise approval is by default.

Excuse my ignorance but just to confirm this "within 45 days claim",

Speaking with regard to eBay,

Is it within 45 days of having committed to the purchase?

or

Within 45 days of actual payment having been completed?

Pretty sure it's the latter but better safe than sorry.

45 days of payment for Paypal. Don't bother with Ebay....

Have to say I am very impressed with Aramex and the store to door service they have. Working next to Pick'n'Pay makes it very convenient for me to send stuff even though it is a bit pricey at R100 per parcel.

I don't claim for these items, I feel sorry for the small Chinese merchants.

After all, why should they be prejudiced by the FU that the ANC has created in this country.

I often have stuff sent from China to the shipper in the USA, and then couriered here. Works well.

Sounds crazy, but what else can you do when the SA Post Office is FUBAR.

I have used aramex on numerous occasions. There service is great. They are a couple of bucks more than speed services no couriers but is a no brainer. Swambo has a shopper card so she gets 10 or 11 bucks discount.

Were more expensive than FedEx and would not allow the insurance of a piece of electronics I was RMA'ing. FedEx at least allowed insurance against theft, Aramex would not insure it and their supervisor was not available. He also would not call back. They don't insure used goods even against theft. Which I think is bollocks considering how EMS insures everything. FedEx allows insurance against theft.

FedEx quote, road freight: R257 (incl insurance R5500)
Aramex: R380 (initially including insurance, later they refused.)

Neither couriers insure used goods against damage. I asked, what if their driver drove a truck over the package, they said it would be tough, they can't insure used goods against even such damage. Basically customer has no recourse other than not using them again.

If you think you can find your package among the million others with zero help from anyone.

Finally, exactly 6 months later, I got my parcel sent from US in September this morning.

There is still hope> I think the earlier parcels are still at the bottom of the heap at Customs.
Like an archaeological dig: we're at September, then Aug parcels will arrive, then July....

Got my parcel from DHL in just over a week. No major hassle except they asked for an invoice and I just send them the confirmation email. Seems customs are doing quite a lot of audits.

Don't hold out hopes for receiving any parcels. JIMC knows nothing about my previous one. It seems it was just laying there at customs until they decided to send it back.
