SA Post Office Strike

Then contact them and ask if they'll help, if not don't use them... They're **** companies if they won't make a plan

Saying it SHOULD work so we must keep using them is utterly stupid. It's broken, it won't be fixed, you cannot trust them. Anyone who orders something and expects service from SAPO is deluded.

And why bother moaning? Save your breath, they don't give a ****

+1

Ordered widgets from Amazon USA on 25 Feb. Shipped 25 Feb. Still waiting.

Why not use a courier? I ordered a phone from Amazon and the courier charges were only around R100.

The stuff was only worth about R100.

And where do you get a courier for R100, you must be mistaken ?

A small box of cheap stuff recently cost me USD85 to courier. The value was half of that.

Just checked the order, it was around R100 with Aramex excluding customs.

No they are good companies or individuals who have no reason not to use a service that works satisfactorily everywhere in the world except South Africa. So your assumptions are just wrong. Also why SHOULD we use a courier that costs R500 for a R100 product? It simply doesn't make sense and instead of people posting nonsense in this thread the PO should get their act in order.

The people posting don't work for the PO, so don't see how stopping posting will improve the POs productivity. How are you going to force the PO to get their act into order? Probably best is by not using them till they catch a wake up that they need to provide a service to survive.

Except it doesn't work here, where they are delivering, so if they are unwilling to accommodate that use someone who will... You should use a courier if you want your stuff. It makes sense if you want your stuff. Yes they should, the lights should also stay on, the government should work for the people, they don't and won't...

You know what should did? Stuck a feather up his arse and thought he should fly.

Once again, the PO is broken and won't be fixed. You want stuff delivered use a courier.

We were talking about Amazon...

Yes but with dollar rand exchange rate it doesn't make it worth while to order from them, especially if its a heavy item...I wanted to order from Amazon yesterday the item was around R200 but shipping totaled to R400 alone...Wasn't feasible....At the end of the day I look for a seller that offers a courier service to order....I have no intention of ever using the post office...

You haven't listened to a word that was said here.

Looks like I am extremely deluded then. I have attached screengrabs from a Google Sheet I use to keep track of my orders. Note the prices vary between R10 and ~R200 with a few exceptions.

The second last column, "Date Arrived" is when I physically have the package in my hands, Days column is number of days between order and arrived, or how long ago I ordered it if it has not arrived yet.

You will note the huge variance on the first page as I placed orders just when the post office went on strike and you will see that all but one package has arrived (one took 315 days!)

So no, ordering your stuff with free shipping off Ebay is not delusional, it is risky.

BTW, the stuff I order can be bought in SA, however a $2 item (~R25) sells for a bargain R125 over here. It costs the same to buy 5 on Ebay.

Just my 2c

Nice spreadsheet. Wow, i thought I order alot of stuff internationally.

Looking at your sheet, my suspicions seems confirmed that alot of the backlog has been cleared and parcels are now being delivered in a reasonable amount of time.

Still missing the EMS /Express option - apparently this isnt being offered any more via USPS.

Who said? EMS is still offered, it's just been renamed. Express Mail International has become Priority Express Mail Int'l.

All looks good then like I suspected and you are the first to confirm it. Guess I will be using SAPO again then.

One more thing to add as well. I can buy a camera filter adapter locally for R400 or I can go for a generic one on ebay at <R100. Even if I can get a generic one locally it's in the region of R250 excluding shipping. So it does make sense to use SAPO even if some items don't arrive.

All my parcels have arrived in the last week that were ordered in february. The problem is that their is still an 2 month backlog at jhb int airport.

However some parcels are given preference to others. I think the cape town area has less delays.

If you are in the east of the country it is probably a good idea TO NOT USE the post office. Another massive issue is parcels are not being scanned with trackings numbers so we can not track international parcels in south africa at all.

No not "at all". Depends what type of shipping service was used.

The only positive wrt to international economy/standard airmail with no tracking, is the fact that if the parcel arrives and the item/s are (in my case grossly mis-described and completely non-functional) not as the seller described, and the payment was done via PayPal, you can get a full refund just by filing a dispute of non-delivery/lost-in-transit. Much easier than the headache of having to play the waiting game by sending the item back at your cost because of some irresponsible seller.

My Singapore Play-Asia stuff is arriving. One item is at my local post office, another is en route from JHB.
