SA Post Office Strike

I'm still waiting for a royal mail package that's stuck in transit somewhere, however I've received 3 notifications these past 2 weeks for a package customs detained...and whenever I've phoned capemail I've had a friendly voice help me. So seems they're actually doing some work here in cpt which is great.

Royal Mail is terrible. In my experience items from UK, I rarely order from there as the selection sucks and prices are expensive, take longer than American, continental and Japanese items. Royal Mail for some reason is a really bad service. And the delays are often before the item ends up in SA. And it's not South Africans because Japan Post and USPS stuff normally appears very quickly and is handled well while Royal Mail, I dunno.

Royal mail is bloody awesome in the UK. Most letters are delivered next day after postage.
I once ordered a printer online at 4pm on a Friday. RM dropped it off at 11 on Saturday morning.

Yep I've only had good experience with royal mail.

Wow that's fast!. If only we had that kinda service locally.

In Germany all packages are handled by DHL. €7 to send and takes 2 days.
Normal letter are handled by Deutsche post and that's just as reliable.

Are Royal Mail packages from the UK also affected by this strike lameness? My package was supposed to arrive 1 Oct but still no dice.

Actually, how does Royal Mail deliver to street addresses? Do I get a notice from the PO and go collect?

Foreign postal services hand over to SAPO. So yes. All USPS, Deutsche Post, HK Post, Japan Post etc. stuff gets passed on to SAPO, and vice versa. That's how postal services how.

Yeah. They all come into the country via JHB and from there it gets distributed to the local centers.

I'm also waiting for a royal mail letter. I'm not sure about the delivery thing - sometimes I have to collect at capemail in epping, other times it gets delivered, other times collect at local post office.

LOL, tracking says my parcel is still at CapeMail Hub. Just got a reply now to an email I sent on the 19th September asking where my parcel is...

Thanks, good to know. Guess it can't hurt to go to the post office to check.

What email address did you use?

[email protected] , but they're barely replying now as well. Pretty much the entire postal system is collapsed, if it comes right you're looking at about 8 weeks of backlog.

This is a zero sum game.
Now they strike for permanent positions, next year it will be salary increases.

In its current model the post office is dead. Close it down, contract it out to a private entity or entities.
Make tampering with the mail a criminal offence.
