SA Post Office Strike

NO BAILOUTS FOR SAA, SAPO: NENE

The country's embattled state-owned entities (SOEs), including SA Airways and the SA Post Office (Sapo), will not be bailed out, according to Finance Minister Nhanhla Nene.

Instead, they will be restructured to make them financially sustainable, he said in the Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement (MTBPS), tabled at Parliament on Wednesday.

There's no way those companies are ever going to be financially sustainable unless there's mass retrenchements in each and their purpose is revisited. SAA's cost base is out of their hands, unless the government forces Sasol to sell fuel to them at cost just like it happens with Emirates and Etihad Airways. We should either make a conscience decision to privatise SAA or continue funding it like it's a government department. I feel sad for the staff of SAA.

As for Post Office, they are held by a government that wants cheap postal services, so they have to pay for those cheap services. They will have to retrench as well but we know the government won't allow that, so they are forced to bail them out.

Or just privatize them.... get rid of the leeching and make it somebody else's problem.

Oh wait, I have forgotten about the unions. Silly me.

The unions stand between us and a better financial future.

Its not an easy decision because SAA has strategically lowered the tickets prices in line with a directive from the government. So privatising it means paying more for tickets. Consumers will then complain to the government about the high prices of tickets and the government wont be able to manipulate that market. The government should just shut up and bailout SAA every year.

So? Privatise the buggers! Every single one. Every. single. one.

From Transnet to Eskom. From SAPO to SAA.

I am sick and tired of seeing MY hard-earned money siphoned off in taxes and those taxes going to waste!

If I remember correctly the postal workers union said that they would slow down delivery of SANRAL invoices.

They have done better, they have stopped then dead. (Sanral outlet in Centurion Lifestyle has three unoccupied workers. One was fast asleep this morning, perhaps they take it in turns)

Same with fine notifications.

This time it is the post office fault. The news of the corruption and mismanagement of funds meant to pay salaries and procure new/modern sorting equipment made things just spiral out of control.

The post office knew strikes were looming weeks or months ahead of time and did nothing.

Both parties are to blame...

SAA is more expensive than other airlines.

unions = votahs

votahs demand jobs, not wheck.

Thank the Socialists. They fscked it up for everyone. Instead of a work = good mentality, honesty is important, virtue is important, we get vacuous human rights which mean that everyone is a special snowflake and people in SA are all underpaid which means everyone gets a 15% wage hike for being less productive than an Asian worker, who works for less. This is not sustainable. Maybe if our competition was made up of fat, wealthy and lazy Europeans but even there people now realise they have to work harder for less, and stupid womyns studies degrees are not going to cut it.

Not sure if it has been mentioned but I got told via a source at the Post Office, that the big guys are getting 26% increases while the workers got 0% and if they don't pay tomorrow the whole country or at least KZN will have a big strike.

I saw the email correspondence from H/O.

She just showed me it via her email, don't have access to their system sadly or time to take a photograph.

Are these being shipped from abroad? Because it's apparently illegal to ship Li-ion batteries unless they come with the device by post. If you want you can use these guys: batteryupgrade.com they ship free by FedEx.
